Are there any stations that trade in Improvised Componets? Been looking for Improvised Componets and cant find any.

Yep They are a Material not a Commercial trade items... missons might pay out, exploded ships may drop them but markets dont..

Improvised components are a pain to find from HGEs, since you need to find an independent system in civil unrest. Thankfully they're used for a reasonably short list of blueprints, reinforced shields being the main one, which you'll only need one set per ship as opposed to the stuff you'll need for shield boosters and weapon blueprints.

I'd just hit up imperial space and fill up on imperial shielding and trade it, or else get rid of some of the stockpile of biotech conductors that mission-givers always seem to be offering and I never use.

It's a pity you can't just get yourself some perfectly normal components and... I don't know, improvise something with them yourself?

Kind of like when you walk into the Engineer's workshop with a bagful of regular focus crystals, but the Engineer wants flawed ones. You want them with flaws? Sure, no problem, just give me a sec...

{whacks bag a few times against the Engineer's workbench}

There you go. Plenty of flaws in them now. Oh, you want crystal shards now too? Sure, no worries mate. Can I borrow your hammer?

And done.

My GENERAL go-to is to hit up as much G5 stuff as possible, just in a relaxed general sense, and then trade it sideways or down when I actually need it. If you're half AFK with a bunch of limpets, supercruise assist, and you just putter around with other stuff going on, it's pretty easy.

You've missed the FD's point, they are purposely hard to acquire, draws out game play, no use complaining as it has been this way for quite a while.

Good luck hunting.

HGEs in independent space, in civil unrest, with the HGE labelled as "civil unrest", which is owned by an independent faction, with enough time on the clock, will sometimes yield improvised components.

Only a few layers of RNG to battle through. No problem!

Diaguandri is actually a good one. Decent population spawns a decent amount of HGEs, not toooooo bad for supercruise distances to USSs, and there's a reasonably decent population of harmless players which has... an influence on the level of crime which in turn drives civil unrest. Most of the players are there for the outfitting rather than running BGS, and the system is pretty poor for bounty hunting (only a regular nav beacon, no res sites) so there isn't a lot of passive activity to cancel negative security actions, meanwhile people who make their base in the surrounding systems instead (like hip 14211 for the IF) will often get surface scan missions targeting the planetary settlement there, which in turn drives up crime stats.
