Are there any workarounds for the SRV exit bug?

SRV exit crashing and black screens have become quite frequent occurrences since U14 was released. It's happening several times per day for me now and also happens on ship entry/exit (in the srv and on foot).
It's particularly annoying in the SRV though due to the SRV magically relocating itself back to the ship.

Has anyone found any in-game or client-side workarounds to minimize this bug?

Not had it either with ship or SRV so I don't know what's going on, it may be a driver issue or a setting issue but it doesn't affect everyone the same that's for sure.

I used to get this farilry often, but now I wait a bit after getting into the disembark window. I wait for the picture of my character to appear and there be no busy animation. This may be superstitious behavior on my part, but I rarely have these any more.

I filed a support ticket on this yesterday ('still waiting, as of the time of this writing, for a response)...
'fairly deep in the black on an exobio mission en route to Colonia. 'grabbed a sample and went to return to the SRV when game crashed. Upon reload/log discovered that the SRV had disappeared, which is especially unfortunate as my ship had already auto-departed. 'now stuck on foot with no ship, no SRV, a looong way from home and sitting on mils of exo/discovery credits.
can you say: RAGE!?
really really hoping that FDEV can get this fixed for me, otherwise I'm outta here for good.

If you recall your ship you'll likely find the SRV is safely inside. Otherwise you can use the stuck recovery menu option to put you back in your ship in space.

As far as workarounds go, it's not a bug I've seen at all since U14 (did get it a few times before that) so it's possible there's some hardware/driver dependencies triggering it - probably worth a try either upgrading or downgrading drivers, temporarily removing overclocking if you have any, etc. to see if that helps.

If you can't recall the ship from your circle menu on foot (e.g. really bad terrain) you should be able to use the "stuck recovery" option at the main menu to get back into orbit with at least the ship and hopefully the SRV too.

(Or I guess someone else could come out and pick you up?)

Thanks so very much, Ned & Ian!! I had no idea there was a stuck recovey option... but it did the trick! 'owe you guys an ale when I'm back to "civilization". :D
'see you in the black,
ym
The SRV exit bug has always sent my SRV back to the ship, a recall was all that was needed to get it back.
Of course, it seems biased to occur at those times where the terrain is pretty lumpy, just to give a challenge in getting back to the ship!

Doesn't happen in legacy (and this is just one of the myriad reasons why I still prefer legacy - but am still hoping for the day that changes). :ROFLMAO:

I have experienced this on occasion, usually if I'm too quick on the buttons. Usually when it occurs (for me anyway) dropping back to the main menu and re-loading clears it. Yes its frustrating when you've got it with the Scarab since its back in your ship, I try to mitigate the issue by consciously slowing down my actions when boarding/disembarking from both ships and Scarab, just giving the menu system time to load for example. This (for the most part) solves it for me, although sometimes I re-laps to buffering commands and have it happen...

I can corroborate this. When in my SRV, I always open the panel to disembark and wait at least 4 seconds with the panel open. In my head I say, "please no black screen please please pretty please" or something like that just to force myself to wait 4-5 seconds. Then I hit the Disembark button. This has almost fixed the issue in that it is now a very rare event and almost always when I did not wait as long as I usually do. I do the same thing when entering the SRV from on foot. I make sure all the HUD elements are done with their animations and the compass is fully drawn in my helmet. As a test, I went back to getting out and back in the SRV as quick as possible and immediately hit the bug. So I believe there is definitely something to this.

I've tried slowing UI interaction and the number of black screens possibly decreased a bit, but they're still happening regularly.
I do agree that this looks like a scene transition timing issue though.

Are you using an nvidia card? The black screen rarely happened (for me) before December 2022, so it could be due in part to a change in the drivers around that time.

I run an NVidia card on the latest drivers and it was happening to me also until I deliberately slowed my actions and no longer buffer commands (i.e. wait for the boxes to appear etc.), just managing your exit & departures has for me anyway pretty much solved the issue, its only when I forget now that I sometimes have a problem.

Sorry I did no respond earlier. I do have and nvidia 3060. For me the bug still happens but a much reduced rate. That said, I wait a very very very long time once at the Disembark button. About as much time as it takes for the atmospheric conditions and the hud compass to draw when leaving the SRV.

All I can say is that I have never experienced this. Not trying to deny its existence or anything but me stating this fact will hopefully contributed to narrowing down the search for the cause. I'm running i7, 16Gb, RTX2060, laptop @ 1080. I am not using reshade or anything else like that.

That it could be a "using the menu to fast" could be a thing, I mean we did have a situation a while back where the game would lock sometimes when rapidly jumping between menu options. I must admit now that I have recently experienced (the last few weeks/month) a situation where I get a black screen when exiting the ship, not the SRV, but it only happens very rarely, I mean once every couple of days and I do a lot of entering and exiting the ship since it's my main method of collecting bio. Since slowing down and waiting a few extra seconds from opening the crotch menu and exiting the ship it hasn't happened again, but yes this could quite easily be a menu issue and not a instance swap issue.
