Elite / Frontier Are there systems where you can sell radioactives for profit?

Quote from the FE2 manual:

RADIOACTIVES: Radioactive materials for example Plutonium and Tritium. Note that this item has a negative trade value, in other words, you have to pay for someone to take it off your hands. Some make a living out of being paid to take this waste away and deliver it to reprocessing plants (ie, anywhere that has Radioactives as a major import). More unscrupulous and irresponsible characters will prefer to jettison it instead, risking prosecution. This is a highly illegal practice and locals are usually vehemently opposed to this act. Police often don't bother with questions but deal with you there and then, as this not only saves on police time but court fees as well

Never found a system where radioactives are in the major import category. Is there such a system or is it one of the many unfinished things in FE2/FFE?

You can buy radioactives from somewhere where the negative price is really high, and sell them somewhere where it is not as high.

To be fair, I think you'd struggle to make much money doing this, but i think that is what the manual is getting at.

I've never seen radioactives as a major import, but to be fair, i haven't looked!

I haven't looked much too, and I think they don't exist.. but: I recently played FFE for several hours again, and I have noticed that the prices for ship weaponry (beam lasers etc.) are sky high in Tiliala during the Dentara Rast arc.

Never noticed that before. So maybe someone noticed a system with radioactive imports, who knows.

I don't think there is such a system, but of course, its possible to make a small amount of money by buying them and dumping them in space.

I am finding it a bit of a pain that radioactives are illegal in Sol. I usually forget to dump them and have to pay a fine (which i get back with Buffet!). It doesnt really make sense for them to be illegal there since that encourages dumping and of course, they still sell military fuel. If anything, they should take radioactives off your hands for free, or even pay you for them, i.e. consider it a premium on the military fuel that you can claim back (a bit like with aluminium cans in some european countries!).

Anyway, if anyone knows what to hex-edit in the .exe to remove radioactives from the illegal goods list for Sol and Achenar, i'd be grateful!

There is an odd "explaination" why radioactives are illegal in Achenar:

Such is the capitalist way of life, there are not many items that are illegal to buy or sell, quite why the line is drawn at radioactives and nerve gas is a mystery - perhaps they could pose the most significant threat to the Emperor, should anyone feel ambitious?

That's from the Frontier Gazetter.

Seems like the emperor is some sort of super human, who is immune from ordinary weapons, and can only be killed by nerve gas and radioactives.

i think it's mentionet that they have a high value on black market +/-, but i don't remember a occasion. dumping can be attractive wit a panther or so, if you don't find any else goods to trade in (ballast).

but there are a lot of systems you can make good profit with, like the well known zeaex (3.35 -1.7). wich i also visit to sell my mined goods, so i place my mb4's usually in a easy reachable system to it. obtain precious metals easy at small or med. gas giants (unreal, i know) at a temp. below 0° but no to cold else the mb4 don't works, repeat deploying process often to succeed (load as many mb4 as you can). additionally the atmosphere of a gasgiant will decrease your speed remarkably if you mount a fuel scoop (from 100AU/s to 10000km/h in "no time").

best would be a system on the "outer rim" where you can sell your goods and position your mb4s in a unexplored system so no one steals your goods or mb4 (this can happen, to be real safe use a intermediate jump or perform a "game reset"). really this is no bug of the game, first i thought the dislocated mb4s in the list (have no coordinates, only name) must be a bug or some "lost" data (i started to play fe2 on cd32, so i used the "load from internal memory" often). but now i'm shure it's ment that way, they are stolen and if you position your mb4 safe they never get lost again.
