Are we alone? Oooo

Hey all, loving this reimagining of a game that warped my tiny mind as a child in its first incarnation all those years ago! One thing I'm worried I'm missing, or isn't maybe clear...am I playing alone? I'm playing online in 'open' mode, but its not clear to me which other ships are players or npc. I've played eve online for over eight years so I'm familiar with MMO mechanics. At the moment the online presence of other players to me feels vague and distant. Am I doing it wrong?! I want to drag a few guys over to this game and would like to be able to explain things to them, things like this..thanks in advance guys. Awesome game with an awesome community, think we are in for the long haul ;)

In mp there doesn't seem to be any humans, lots of weird named AI that pull you out of SC, but no humans as yet, for me anyway.:S

Other players are shown on the scanner as hollow icons. :)

Ahhh, that's a good start for me. Thanks, hope I can figure out how to talk/text them. Again, it seems a little vague. Thanks again though.

They're out there. I've managed to get at least a casual hullo out of a few tonight. Guess you need to know what you're looking for and where.

Try hanging out around hub stations, and watch out for hollow scanner blips. Lock on and use the chat keys to shout out :)

You'll find me hanging out outside Aulin Enterprise station right now, having a wine break, feel free to see if you can instance with me. :D

For texting/comms - key 2 should bring up the comms panel. Also you can bind some keys to the commands in the options menu.

On the comms panel - use the up and down to select a contact and then pick an option of what you want to do (keys are the same as whatever you use in station to navigate menus). Press the comms key again to close the panel.

If you open the quick panel (that you can bind - I have X bound for this) to close it and not send a text just press ESC, otherwise just type a message and press ENTER this will sent it to the currently selected target.

No game for me tonight, girlfriend ECM :) I take it we are 'instanced' and in parallel universes then? I've been spoilt with single shard universe for too long evidently lol. Anyone feel free to friend me Commander name Mitz, be good to explore/test some of the MP possibilities in this great game with others.

You can talk to them one at a time in the game. Nothing more. I'd recommend using TS3 or Mumble. Also, if you're in open play, you probably wont be on the same server, so you'll need to do group play to be with them.

Apparently the player base here doesn't want communications to be that expansive....

Excellent, thanks mate. Will try this when I'm able.

I see a fair few people about in supercruise, but not so many around stations. I find the sensor range on the sidewinder is quite low, so by the time I've typed "hello" the other player has moved out of range and no longer appears on my contacts. Seems odd that you can see objects a lot further away than you can detect them. I would have thought it would be the other way around. :S

Added. Maybe catch you later this weekend? Be cool to co-op some combat missions :)
