It worked out well for the Alliance the last time.
Why do you think there are no Alliance ships?
It could that when the Thargoids show up, it will be us with alien bioweapons and Thargoidian Scout ships.
I won't be shooting first when they appear, and I will attempt to contact them.

The idea that humans would band together in a speciesist anthropocentric crusade to wipe out a defenseless alien civilization is just horrifying. As a proper bleeding-heart sophont, I will most certainly band together with other like minded individuals in order to protest such barbaric, xenocidal causes. Any escalation to violence, will, of course, be the fault of closed-minded xenophobic bigots in charge of human systems and as such we will be free of any moral or ethical restraint in our counterstrikes in defense of the poor defenseless aliens before someone goes all space-monsanto on them and unleashes some kind of interstellar bug spray. I really hope that when aliens show up it's entirely unannounced. Like just a random player encounters them and their actions in that one encounter decide the fate of our relationship with them. Does this player open fire and accidentally declare war or just amicably go about their way.
That would be kinda neat instead of just an announcement like "Ok, look guys, aliens..."

I think they'll hold of the aliens until most of the parts of the game are in play.
If they'd introduce them now for instance, you wouldn't be able to fight them with a multi-crew.
