Are we playing yet or testing? - Transparency request on progress

Is the gamma another stress test for the servers?

It seems Frontier Developments have been testing us all for quite a while. I suspect those that play (test) more than others have a better opportunity via their IP to test than those that don’t. I hope FD can at least sort the networking/connection issues before release in Dec 2014 for everyone post “offlinegate”.

There's reported bugs, the repetition of many in numerous threads , the flaws in gameplay described eloquently by passionate fans and their lore knowledge - (envy) -There must be a better way for mere mortals to appreciate what is being ‘worked on’ instead of the circle dynamic within ‘gamma xx just released’’ or the frustrating ‘gamma bug reporting’ thread. Why is it so hard to create and moderate a thread to help the game develop and sell with all the money that has been put into it?

<sticky> As of xxNov2014, The dev team are working on:

“We’ve received reports of Y happening - (insert reported problem) - Thanks to everyone for your feedback we’re working on it, please don’t repeat this issue in this thread”

“Sorry about the missions not being possible for y reasons - were aware of this and working on it”

“Apologies about your exploration funds and its date are set to zero - were working on it and its due for a mend’

We love your reminder about what was in the DDF (design discussion forum) - don’t worry the game will evolve and bring those many well thought out complexities once we launch - here’s a nice example for you all to discuss while we eat pizza..

“We hear your issues - here’s some we’ve noted ‘xyz’ - thank you we’re looking into it…”

etc etc

‘Transparency’ is the word, not some puerile PR vacant marketing speak. It doesn’t wash with the wise and the oldies - been there, heard it, worn the t-shirt and got run over - but hey! we’re actually buying/financing your game (-:

Please don’t flame me for this post, I merely think that Frontier could do more to make us loyal backers feel like we’re worth something by giving more feedback and encouragement that this game is actually going to be what they hoped for. I joined as an £££ Alpha backer and now I feel foolish for expecting more.. ever the optimist. Yes to learn from testing is a real privilege & to learn this game is exciting all over again, I don’t expect it to be easy but at the moment & I spend most of my free time searching this forum to find out whether it’s worth logging in to enjoy playing it. That just doesn’t seem right!

It’s NOT the minority who have been waiting many yrs (like me) its the new noobs, the kids born after 84, the one’s who haven’t realised that looking up in the sky at night is actually a fun and an inspiring thing to think about. To be able to ‘Blaze your own trail’ in an infinite universe is surely what life is about…

Make it so FD

or i want my money back (-; just kidding..

FDev is not the paragon of communications. We don't know if this is what to expect in final or they are holding out... Which is just as bad as gives little time for adequate testing.

I always look at the 2nd post following a new OP, at least yours wasn't negatively reactionary:cool:
I understand (or have been lead to expect) that FD aren't the paragon of communications but isn't it about time they communicated in a more transparent way in describing their mission and ideals so close to public release of this game? Letting us all know we are inclusive of their decisions within it and reacting to bugs and game play concerns in an easy to find and read would be appreciated...

Laying out honest open responses to player/testers reports and concerns in a logical way on this forum is all I am suggesting...

I agree and repost what I just wrote elsewhere:
Frontier doesn't communicate properly with the community. Offline-Gate, no word on gameplay mechanics as described in the Design Discussion Archives, no word on multiplayer functions, and their servers can't even handle the shop and Gamma downloads, ... etc.

The truth is: no one can tell what the vision for this game is NOW. And Frontier doesn't tell us.
Is it going to turn into a nightmare? Nothing from the DDAs fulfilled. In-game ads everywhere. Pay to Win credit shop. Servers can't handle players.
Or is it going to turn into our dream? Most of the DDA features fulfilled. No or very little in-game ads, that DO NOT BREAK immersion. No pay to win mechanics whatsoever.
We don't know and they don't communicate on these issues at all. It's basically: buy the game and find out. Also, blind hope for future updates plz.

Simply... yes

And balance, and verification and tweaks

It will be testing to the 16th of Dec.

Right now we are testing the Release Candidate

thanks for that clarification...

Shame you don't work for FD tho - maybe you do?

Got any more info about the gameplay

I know they are working balls out at the moment, I don't want them to communicate better. They are doing what they should be doing, which is working on the release build. Between the 16th and Christmas, they will be making sure the servers are ok and doing any hotfixes that are required. I expect it to be January before they can take a breath and give us details of a roadmap of devolpment.

Oh i thought Dec 16th was the official release date for the game... when the pixies delivered a game everyone could play after all the Alpha/beta/gamma testing.. I didn't realise there was going to be another development phase we should tolerate - really?

I find your 'I don't want them to communicate better' statement a bit strange - please forgive me but I've never imagined such a thought or ever seen it as encouragable

You'd prefer them not to fix bugs if any occur after launch and want them to stop developing Elite any further?

if you are referring to my post.. of course not..
I merely expect that the game is released in a playable state... an example of which is one where all the bugs that have been reported to them have been fixed - I have no probs with new bugs after the 16th.

To clarify.. the devs just need to get out there publicly and acknowledge present issues, say how they are dealing with them and encourage more valid tickets from testers before launch

You're not the only one. This imho is what a lot of people don't know. The development on December 16th is far from 'finished'. I see it more as a minecraft alpha or Diablo 3 in it's first iteration: a solid framework. But I do share your concern that a lot of DDF and multiplayer features still need to be implemented and rather see some of that prior to release.

Do we need more communications. Yes it would be nice, but.as you can see in another forum: more answers lead to more questions and not necessarily more happy players.
