Are We Sitting Comfortably CMDR?

Well I'm not tbh as I've got a back problem, and long hours stooped in a bad posture isn't doing me a lot of good..

So I'm looking for a nice comfy set up .. ideas & inspiration

Those X Rocker chairs look ok but they're clearly are designed for console use and not HOTAS. ( can you even use them with pc?)

If anyone has any pics of their ergonomically superior solutions then I would be most grateful.

I went to a breakers yard and bought a seat from a Range Rover Sports, you can pick them up fairly cheap, good leather with armrests, high end quality. The car was wrecked but the interior was still in top condition. I can spend hours sitting in this thing, way better than any high end office chair, and I have spent hundreds of pounds on various seats over the years.

Did you mount it on a frame? My brother built himself a racing setup for GT with a real car seat, using the slider rails so you could adjust the seat.

I can't have a chair on wheels. I don't trust myself on em

Deffo needs to be a static based solution. I like the idea of being in a chair such as the x rocker but with joystick on one side and throttle the other.. I could do without the keyboard if it wasnt for typing in systems into the route map on a trade route. Which brings me to ask. Is there some way on an A to B trade grind that you don't have to keep inputting the systems into the Navigation tab on Galaxy Map? Like a "Recent Destinations" option such as on a Sat Nav. If I had that then yeah I could do without the keyboard altogether on a trade slog.

e2a: Liking the Land Rover idea a lot.

Back troubles here too.

I bought a new chair last year. It's really not something you want to buy based on recommendations, style or brand.

Find shops which offer a variety of chairs, go there and try them out until you find the right one.

Even i can't recommend one, as your back problems might be quite different to mine.

Yeah, a mate of mine welded the base, the whole thing is solid. My BKgamer is attached, shakes the whole thing like crazy, it's still solid after a year of use.

@Whiteknight - Consider voice attack for your routes. I can plot all my routes via voice commands. I fly in VR, so never touch the keyboard

If you find a chair you like buy two vesa monitor pole mounts to mount your hotas in front of the arm rests. There are photos on old threads buried in this forum. I copied them and it's a very comfortable setup

When I was working and had a bad back I bought myself a "kneeling chair" for use at the office. A great bit of kit that forces you to maintain a good posture, and if you buy the rocker version it works very well at a desk with monitor computer controls and monitor thereon. Won't be any good if you use rudder pedals though.

If you have back problems, stay clear of "gaming" and "simulator" stuff and buy a real office chair. It's not cheap, but your back will thank you and the chair will last you dozens of years.
The chair I have at work is better than the one I have at home actually.

That's very true, however the reason I suggested a high end car seat is because they are designed very well for back support over prolonged periods. The range rover sports seats are the equivalent of extremely expensive office chairs, not like gaming chairs at all, and much cheaper.

I guess it depends if you are good at designing and building a support that will be at a proper height for a computer desk. (And the room you have available too)

I have back problems too, maybe because i am older now (59) and worked on lorries all my life.
But i sit on my couch, i can even lay down on it if needed, i have a coffee table in front of me and i use my big screen tv, and everything wireless, even my joystick. (my pc is in corner of room)
Maybe this could be your solution.

you got me intrigued, i got allot back problems but can't afford any fancy office chair so this might be the solution for me.
have you built anything to support the chair or is it just standing on the floor as it is?
got any pictures perhaps?

Honestly not trying to be rude buddy, but everything has been answered in the topic, just scroll up to my posts ;) Good luck with your build.

Btw, best place to look for build diagrams for frames is on flightsim/racer sites. Lots of good builds if you do a google search. - My frame was built to be the same height as my office chair

I've got myself one of these bad boys:

Wireless keyboard with built in touch pad, and an xbox controller. Loving it.

Thinking about trying HOTAS screwed to a plank with the keyboard in between. Resting on my knees/lap.

Very, very comfortable.

Fly safe, and good luck with that back. :)

I'm thinking about how I'm going to convince the wife to let me put a flat panel on the ceiling, above the bed.
