Are we, the players that have Elite Dangerous only, getting abandoned?

This talk about Season 2 of content for Elite Dangerous Horizons makes me think that if I chose not to buy the planetary landings expansion, I will not get future updates for the game. How correct am I in assuming that?

Care to give some details please? I am worried that we won't get improvements to the general gameplay if we don't get the expansion.

You think i'm gonna just go land on a planet, help with a little terraforming and live out my days as a farmer?! Lol... see you in space CMDR.......

I think you'll get any new ships that are introduced. New mission formats outside of planet-side ones. Updates to the background sim. Basically anything not related to planet-side stuff.

I don't know this but that's what I assume

Well even if you haven't purchased Horizons you still have access to 1.5 (Ships) so it's safe to assume that they are still providing content even if you don't have the lattest expansion.

Many of the features coming to season to have to be implemented into the base game in order for the game to remain playable for anyone, not just people who own either season 1 or 2, so no.

Are you being left in your cold, lonely cockpit to suck down protein rations while the rest of us frolic freely on the planet surfaces in SRV's, commandeering canisters of coffee, wine and animal meat to be cracked open back at the planetary bases for a wild night of drunken revel and debauchery?

Yes, Yes you are.

No ofc we aren't, but I c the game already is going to be pay-to-win, or should I say pay-to-win easier... Example is pretty easy to find, like the new ammunition stuff available only to Horizons' owners. 50% more damage, hmmm....

so in terms of competative pvp gameplay, if two commanders meet with identical skills, one owner of Horizons DLC and the other owner of the basic game, then the winner is.....the PAY-TO-WIN commander.....

What the hell FD?

I really hope that's the case. It would make sense, but all this season 2 talk makes me doubt it somewhat.

Really, TheoZ? That sounds really bad.

Can you not asteroid mine there materials? I don't actually know. If not then I can see the balance swinging towards people with Horizons which would be a shame.

That said, I've found the materials are time consuming to find. Not sure how many PvP'ers will bother

The two versions have to operate in the same universe and still interact, so any root gameplay changes that impact the background simulation, or anything to do with missions, ships, etc. will have to be included in the "1.x" stream.

At some point in the future, it's logical to think that the 1.x stream will be "frozen", but you have to keep in mind that the basic gameplay methodologies and UI elements are still changing with each new release!

Realistically, 1.5 is pretty much what the game should have been at release! It's a strange paradigm to have a game fundamentally change features over time, but that's what is basically called "early access", although Frontier never used that term.

Only temporarily. Materials are only found on planets at the moment, but they will be available in space during this season.

actually 50% ammo is a thing of the past. not to mention the fact that to get premium ammo takes many many hours of game-play to actually get and only lasts for 1 reload

We will get some thing but I expect we will get left out of loads of things and from what I see in this update shenanigans we are going to be more a second thought ......

1) Go to google.com

2) type in your question then add "SITE:forums.frontier.co.uk" without the quotes after.

3) hit enter.

This will bring up the many forum posts that have already covered this.

You will specifically not get the ability to land on a planet/moon, use an SRV, do missions that require you land on a planet/moon and that's it.

Materials, which can currently only be found on planets/moons, will be placed in space based locations before too much longer. Ammo boosts are 25% max, not 50%, and if PvP is your primary concern, you've really picked the wrong game in the first place, since there's no balance in ships and bigger is almost, without fail, better. I'd not be worried about someone who has Horizons coming at you for PvP with a lot of 25% boosted ammo, they MIGHT have 1 clip of boosted ammo in a single ballistic weapon, if they spent enough hours finding the required materials. Ballistic ammo only for boosts, cannons, multi-cannons, frag cannons, particle accelerators and missiles, not any of the lasers, so you can imagine exactly how worthless 1 clip of boosted ammo is...or maybe you can't, it's pretty pointless none the less.

Multicrew, crafting and loot, synthesis, all part of season 2 and doesn't require Horizons purchase.

There's lot of information directly from FD on this, watch the Horizons videos they've been putting out, covers this pretty well.

I think this still comes down to the skill of the CMDR dude. Give one person a gun with no experience against a skilled person with a knife and the outcome is uncertain...

They have already given the new ships to both you and horizons purchasers. One difference I can see immediately is deep space explorers can,if they want to, take auto cannons with them. Before they became useless when ammo ran out, now you can replenish them with materials from planets/moons.
