Are you far away or close to SOL

speaking for myself I wanted to get as far away from common areas as possible to see whats out there.

and that plan has been working out great thus far

I started from Earth on my recent exploration trip and I'm about 350 LY away and still heading out. I see the occasional ship or a wreck(although in the last system I ended up having two separate fights) but no other sign of man. Nearest inhabited system is about 100 LY from me.

I couldn't understand staying at SOL. I grew up there, I want to see the universe, and fight wars in distant places. So far so good.

Started off at about 150 LYs from Sol (IIRC) at Raksha, their was some nice quiet trading round there ;), only met the odd cmdr.

Bit nearer now at the Durius system helping the inde's there, but still ~100 LYs away, not been really far out yet.

Have you got an auto repair unit?

I have never been near sol since beta, when gamma hit i started somewhere far away from sol, i have not seen many players, but i have plenty of good trading routes.

Far away in Empire space. I will there be Once, when the Emperor will lead a crusade to rescue mankind and humanity on its way to conquer Sol.

helping to est mechanics in mikunn at the moment, wiaitng for Frontier to sort out system influence and other systems, as well as finding colonisation targets for factions

Lol, no. I meant to pick one up, honest...:). I've actually only got another 50 LY to go until I reach my target system. After that I'll be heading back. I've done this length of journey before without any problems so I'm not too worried. I've been VERY careful during fuel scooping. For a longer trip I'd definitely get one. My pro explorers tip is get as big a fuel scoop as you can possibly afford. It really, really helps! :D

I would also advice people to even just get the basic one if they cant afford. I was saving up for a better one and I broke down and bought the cheap one. Even just the cheap one has made my travels...well..possible

Currently on my way back from the Veil nebula, about 1600 light years from Sol right now. But I rarely ever visit Sol when I'm in civilized space. I found a quiet little independent system that I'm supporting when I'm "home".

OP, there is a dead zone around the core systems, it's depressing waste land of space filled with dead rocks and burnt worlds. I do belive once you punch through it, there is better places out there somewhere.
