Are you rusty too when you venture back to the bubble ?

Well I am :D
Just signed up for SEPP CG. Fitted Purple Haze(My exploration Asp) with 24t cargo space, jazzed her up(no weapons) with hulls and over sized shields(6A), chaff, heatsinks etc. and max distributors & thrusters for max speed(no engineered stuff)
I read up on Dr. Kaii's excellent CG thread , https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/270502-Current-SEPP-CG-Details , and realised I need to smuggle again, right !

Landings were good as I am an excellent docking computer :D My smuggling however, not so good !!!!!
Got to GOHAR Station(destination for CG) , lined her up 7.5km out from the station, got docking permission, and 100% throttle, then at about 4 or 5km BOOST !!!!!!

As I entered the toaster slot It suddenly dawned on me that :
1. Erm, why am I going in this fast ???
2. Good job I DON'T have engineered components, speed kills [yesnod]
3. If a single cop can scan me at this speed, I will give up ED :D
4. Oh bum, I forgot to deploy landing gear just before the slot(to help stop) [woah]
5. oooh, look at that shiny needle I am approaching :x
6. Oh dear, I only have 2 pips on my SYS :x

I laterally thrusted to avoid the needle and smacked head on in to the back of the station [big grin][yesnod][down]
At 240 m/s !!! :O
My over sized shields meant(I guess) that I only lost 2 rings when I expected to go boom

Any close calls recently guys ?

Pretty much had the same experience as you on my first delivery to Gohar, Dognosh. I was in my Cobra, coming in through the mail slot with a fire trail behind me... luckily I was able to stop before hitting the back wall, just barely so.

I think next time I will take it a little slower. I've never smuggled goods before, guess I'm just a bit paranoid of getting caught. None of that matters if I can't prevent myself from becoming a greasy spot on the back of the station wall.

Yup. Bought a Cobra MkIII for the SEPP CG and specced it for smuggling. No shields, loads of hull re-inforcement and 24 tons of cargo. On my 3rd trip last night, I lined up with the slot some 7.5km out and requested docking. As soon as I got docking confirmation, full throttle (4 pips to engines), boost, hit silent running and popped a heat sink. And promptly bounced off of the bottom of the mail slot at 400m/s . Luckily, I only took ~10% hull damage.

Attempt 4 ended worse. I hit the toast rack at about the same speed and couldn't get out! About 20% damage and only just managed to extricate myself before the station shot me for loitering

After that, I logged off for the night and gave it up as a bad job ;)

My old character died that way. RIP

Anyway, that speed boosting to avoid scan has to be the dumbest game mechanic ever implemented. Oh look at me, not the slightest suspicious when entering station on full boost breaking every traffic rule, avoiding scanners and slamming down hard on the landing pad. Never mind me..

I dread re-entering the bubble...I only have vaguest idea how to approach and then drop out at a station. And how do you ask to dock again?

Its going to quite stressful when I get closer

so true :D
cop : oh, he's in the station, I will never find him there !

2nd attempt : forgot to slow down quick enough, gear was down(but still too late), and still only 2 pips to SYS. Hit the back at only 120 this time :D (half a ring lost)
I seriously recommend 6A oversized shields on the Asp :)

Well... there was the forgetting to request permission....
and then there was that forgetting to stow the weapons thing...
Oh... and there were a couple of times where I tried to land in someone else's spot... 'cause I forgot which one was mine :D
.
.
Ya know... come to think of it... This may not be related to the thread at all... 'cause I don't remember what the question was ;)

Last time I returned from the deep...
Slow down to enter the slot, all cool.
Hmm, there's my Landing Bay, so time to lower Landing Gear..."FA OFF"!!
Suddenly I am a squash ball bouncing around the internal station.
A few grey hairs later find the button to turn FA back on and lower my Landing Gear.
I run an Extreme 3D Pro and FA On/Off is the button ABOVE Landing Gear. White texta on button...problem solved (I Hope).

I got incredibly good at hot docking during the great Seeking Luxuries Unicorn Run™ of 3301. I happily dock at ludicrous speeds even after 9 months out of the bubble - though I notice they seem to have "fixed" the rapid slow down that happens when you lower your gear and scoop. I used ot be able to boost my Asp just a few hundred meters short of the cage and still pull up in time. It, erm.. Seems to not work anymore...

Shields thoroughly ram tested and operating within spec, however!

Combat, on the other hand, I've become awful. I've forgotten how to power manage my ship...

Z...

A thought, given what you're piloting: Have you considered stopping at an outpost rather than a larger station? There's something to be said for not having to fit your ship through a mail slot...

Beyond that, I've experienced that same problem after extended journeys out in the black. It's one reason why my Anaconda carries a docking computer. :)
