You should contact those individuals through the forum messaging and ask them. It would seem the more time effective approach...

I think they should have required that the forum and commander names were the same

I chose the same name as my in game name because I was a lurker on the forums up until recently.
Just made sense me choosing the same name.

When I joined the forum, my handle was already taken, so I added to it. In the game, I was surprised it let me use what I wanted. So either the "imadot" on the forum is calling himself something else in the game, or the game lets multiple people use the same name.
