General / Off-Topic Area 51 'declassified' in U-2 spy plane history

Just what are those strange markings in the desert?

Weirdly, I thought Google maps had redacted the satellite images, but I just looked and it's kinda cool. All these odd little test pads and airstrips. They've almost convinced me that it's nothing more than an extra-ordinary military aircraft testing facility...

Saw an interview the other day from an ex-employee at the Lockheed Advanced Development Projects, Skunk Works who said they are working on designs that are approx 20-50 years ahead of what is currently 'out there' in terms of public knowledge.

Deadly, But very fluffy...
Agree, on first looks its a standard research facility, but as Capt. Hook suggests there has to more advance stuff going on that we cant envisaged, or can but wouldn't believe possible at the moment!

Any good government would employ massive funds into advance research on various projects and try keep ahead of competitive country's, so America keeping one step ahead of China say.

Now am no expert but to keep the edge i would encourage/fund private and public enterprise of my country, secure or employ the best of professionals, and of course secure secure secure your most important innovations.

I love the fact that i bet there's stuff out there that would astound the general public, and that includes me.

It's uniquely conspicuous because of the great effort that the US military go to, to look inconspicuous. For example, the military staff who work there are flown in by planes that look like they belong to a generic commercial airline but which only ever fly to and from military sites, and all the passengers board the planes in shorts, T-shirts and baseball caps looking like they're going to Disneyland despite the fact that *everyone* knows they are going to a military base to work.

If a bunch of military folk in full uniform boarded a plane marked "US Military Transport" and flew into a military base, nobody would think that the slightest bit odd.

Some would say that's the idea.....stop hiding it and people will stop asking questions about the aliens...... :D
