CQC Arena - small number of peak players

I see DOTA is still number 1 in steam charts. Elite : Dangerous is number 76.... er... OK...

I wondered how many peak player Elite Dangerous : Arena has...

5 in the last 24 hours! (http://steamcharts.com/app/443080) FIVE!

I know it doesn't include non-steam players (like me) but I was expecting at least 100. I wonder how long average wait times are...

I kinda think they should make it free. It is a fantastic demo of the game and likely to pull more people in.

Aside from that, it would benefit the current players that do enjoy playing CQC by making a larger player pool.

EDIT: And if they want to profit at all from it, allow the cosmetic stuff to be bought anyway. Skins for fighters, weapon colors, dash stuff, ship kits, etc.

It also doesn't include steam players who play Arena withing Elite Dangerous, it only includes people playing the Arena Standalone.

Well that's five times the number of players I've seen there ever.

And I agree - it should be free, as it is a great demo.. the tag line could read:

"All this, with bigger ships and more play area"

I wasn't able to find a game after November (2015) IIRC. After a few tries I opened a ticket. Support closed it : not enough players for my level (barely pro !) they said. Never retried after that. The only reason why I did not forget the thing entirely is the stupid CQC rating in the stats panel.

Not that it was a surprise : many players warned FD about that at the time. But *NO*, we want to have Battlefield in our space sim ! Well, there you have it FD, I hope you enjoy your barren pewpew arena FD. Your player base obviously does.

One update wasted. Fortunately we had PP.

*starts crying*

No-one around on Friday last week during the day when I was taking a break.

A couple of weeks before, I got my first game on a brand new account. Rank 48 was the lowest level I was competing with in my Rank 1 Fed fighter. I though 0.2 Kill ration was not bad for the 3 games I played!

CQC arena has so much potential, but currently is not done right. It requires a large base of dedicated PVP players throughout 24/7 that ED does not have. ED gamers are totally different. Waiting for a player for an infinite number of time is just NO. Either show all of CQC people online, some kind of stat population, or better still - make CQC available in solo flavour too.

I REALLY think they should make CQC with offline mode - fighting against NPCs. For example, Elder Scrolls Online has an ultimate solo area called Maelstrom arena. When played in Veteran mode, NPCs are incredibly though and challenging. Doing something similar in CQC could also be challenging, fun and great for training skills.

It is a total load of garbage and the sooner they get rid of that stupid red entry in my RHS UI main page the better...

............ AAAAAAaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggggggggggggggggggggg...................

(OK I have had my pet-hate rant now, move along there....)

CQC was never going to reach the critical mass needed to keep a multiplayer-only title afloat. It's a fun little game but there isn't really enough content to keep a PVP-focused playerbase busy in the long run. And really when you're into that kind of PvP, the mechanics and the content is what matters, the theme (space in the case of CQC) is only a small factor. Those who just want a space-themed game already have ED or EVE, those who want an arena shooter already have better options.
Does anybody remember Shattered Horizon? Same story really.

Frontier should add bots to fill in the empty slots, it would allow those of us who fancy a game of CQC once in a while to be able to find one at all.

I’ve tried playing several times over the past month or so, but I have not been able to get into a single match. Not one. More than a few times I’d leave it open while I surfed the net or did the dishes or stuff, waiting, but eventually I’d just close it in sadness. I’ve actually given up trying now. This is in the US, EST.

It seems pretty dead to me.

Quite a few of us mentioned early on in the CQC timeline that it needed the ability to include bots and create private matches........and the state of CQC now is exactly why.

It needs building into the main game, weekly competitions, galnet, massive credit prizes, maybe a hardcore version where players can risk real ships at specific locations. Throw in a spectator mode etc. It's really fun but it's a white elephant on its own, which is a shame as it does a great job at its brief.

That would just make me try this UA bombing that the kiddies do ...

... barf ...
