Aren't the NPCs supossed to be difficult now

I heard they got an upgrade, but I haven't gotten more difficult fights. I don't mean to brag, but I was in a combat zone, and faced off in a 1v1 against an elite NPC vulture in my courier, and beat it no problem. The 2 A shield boosters I have may play a role, but I really didn't have much trouble. In the whole time I was is the CZ, I only had to use 1 shield cell, and only left because my multi-cannon ran out of ammo. I will be trying more elite NPC combat after I return from my nebula exploration/wallpaper screenshot trip. Does anyone else feel like the AI is still somewhat beatable.

I don't mean anything against Sarah, but I still have a relatively easy time, although it could be just luck.
 
From what I have seen a lot of the ships don't even return fire. I have plenty of video clips that show this; I attack the NPC, it tries to evade me, and uses chaff - but does not fire back. Very odd, maybe it's broke?

I've noticed that they're less rubbish than before but still not difficult.

I think some forumites have taken a shine to the AI programmer and think that by biggin her work up on here she might date them or something :)

lol, you said combat zone and elite NPC in the same sentence :)
 
That could be it, but this guy did fire on me. I was using FA off and a lot of strafe to try and stay behind him. My chaff launcher may also have been a part, but I don't think I used it in that fight.

Well, there were a ton of mostly harmless ships for a few minutes, but then only ships ranked elite were showing up. I see a sidey, elite. A viper, elite. It went all the way up to elite Anacondas and every ship in-between.

Tray a top assassination mission or jump into a couple of SSS... ( not saying theiy are not doable any more but way harder )

This.

It used to be that I could pop an elite Conda while only losing a single ring of my Pythons shields. Nowadays I need to pop a Shield cell in eachh fight, if he has buddies or rams then 2 or 3 cells. They're quite exciting now.

There is two ways to describe it I guess:

1. The AI have been improved!
2. The AI is less rubbish!

One is positive feedback, the other one isn't... ;)
 
I think some of you need to realize that if the game would always be balanced against combat focused human ships/pilots this would leave no place for anything else. If you think AI ships are too boring for you, why don't you focus on PVP instead?

Or use a smaller / less combat oriented ship.

I don't know though. I think they both say the same thing and the interpretation is entirely made by the reader... :p

So far I've met decent AI-pilots in weaker ships (Sidey, Eagle, Viper, Cobra) and weak AI-pilots in dangerous ships. My impression is that these elements are balanced towards your current skill (your rating probably?). Last night I was interdicted by an Anaconda in a wing of 3. The Anaconda had a novice pilot and in the end I was glad to escape in one peace. Me in a non-combat focused ASP btw. I doubt I would have even escaped if there was an elite AI sitting in the Anaconda.

I think some of you need to realize that if the game would always be balanced against combat focused human ships/pilots this would leave no place for anything else. If you think AI ships are too boring for you, why don't you focus on PVP instead? Just keep in mind there are players that don't want any combat at all if possible. The game isn't made for you or me exclusively.

So if the game isn't working as intended (that is what the original post is questioning), we should not even try to play it as it was intended to be played?

I have a bunch of video clips I can show you where the NPC's don't even shoot back!! :D
 
Pretty much every npc I fight now is loaded with chaff. The lower rated ships have gone back to their tactic of trying to ram you.

Not sure if this is what is considered 'making them harder', just requires a change of tactics from before 1.3
 
Have a go at an Elite 'Conda assassination and his dangerous Vulture sidekick and tell me straight in my face "there is no difference" from before...

The incursion single player mission was always a nice example of how aggressive the AI can be. I've not tried it in a while.

I always felt that the single player missions had a great structure, I believed in the early days they reflected the missions we were going to get in the game. The AI in those missions is great.
