Hardware & Technical Argh!!! Headsets...

The things I read in this thread make me sad. wow.
Don't get a headset, get a pair of headphones. case solved. there really is not any alternative.
there is no room for discussion, this can't be said often enough. there is not a single gaming headset on earth worth the money.not a single one.

check those, listen to them and ignore everyone and everything else!

personally i got myself a pair of akg550s and sennheiser hd598s a few years ago and recently added a modmic 4.0

EDIT: Oh and one more thing, don't you ever listen to people recommending surround headsets! this fricking trash is marketing beyond reason and adds NOTHING but price to the product.

I didn't say they have poor sound. I said they wouldn't win any awards in an audiophile magazine... big difference there. My point is that they are a tool designed for the job, in this case gaming, and they do that job well. Comfort ofver long periods is more important than stellar sound. I have a pair of ATH-ES10's sitting right here next to me but I would never use them for gaming...

They do have awful sound though, and they cost almost as much as your ES10's, possibly more depending on where you buy them.

I have several pairs of headphones, but I use my DT770 Pro LE's for gaming because they are good at it, and I can leave them on all day with no discomfort. They also cost less than the Razers ( including the cost my mod mic ) and sound several orders of magnitude better.

I fail to see what the Razers are doing better that can justify that ridiculous price, sorry.

Not a fan of gamer headsets myself so if I need to curb the noise I use cheap hi-fi headphones for gaming (£20 Panasonic/Technics) and a standalone mic with PTT bound (Blue Yeti).

nothing. razer doesn't offer a single pair of headphones or headset that sound acceptable. beyerdynamic are an excellent choice tho open headphones are to be preferred for gaming (dt990)

Hence why I got cheap for now - and when I find a headset that fits my needs I'll use a lav or modmic!

Hehe I prefer my 770's for gaming, but my 990's for music.

I hate headsets, I have a really old but amazing Yamaha amp and speaker set and love to use it for gaming - whole house shakes with some games but I will be playing Elite late at night so need to be quiet...

I don't want to spend lots of cash on so called gamer headsets that just seem over priced for tinny sounding speakers so a little advice is needed if you don't mind!
Will be using them with EdTracker and voice attack otherwise I would just use my trusty in ear headphones.

I saw these that apparently have great reviews but do let me know what your using!

My experiance is avoid Plantronix like a plague unless your installing the cheapest possible by the hundred for your call centre.

well i guess you won't benefit from the better sound stage the 990s have in games like ED since there is no need to hear exact locations where sounds are coming from. It's very beneficial in shooters tho

Using AX Tritton Pro's (wired) and corsair vengeance 2100's (wireless)... Both give pretty epic sound imho...

The tritton pro's are a bit pricey and they can sometimes fall to pieces if you're in any way rough with them. The corsairs are great for a wireless set.

I was given a Logitec USB headset - I havn't used it much at all but I have found its mic to be fantastic. At the moment I am experimenting using Windows control panel to have the sound play out of my TV stereo speakers and just use the mic, with background noise reduction to cancel it out. Obviously can't have the sound booming out but it's better than the headphones.

Astro A50's

I know it's a gamer headset, but my Astro A50's are just as good, if not better than my Sennheiser PXC 450 noise cancelling headphones and they're a little bit less expensive. If you do consider gamer headsets, I would definitely put these on the list to look at. No denying they are quite costly, but they sound amazing, are very versatile, and extremely comfortable.
