Arissa for the Throne?

GALNET BULLETIN BOARDS

I mean if she's going to get the throne then I'm off to the Alliance if they'll have me.

We /know/ women can't be allowed the Imperial Throne.

JR

Disclaimer: This in no way reflects my 'real' opinions. In the game, women haven't been allowed the Imperial Throne since it's foundation.

Unless, of course, tomorrow's Galnet headline reads "Arissa Lavigny, actually born 'Dave Lavigny' says Palace chamber maid".
I've always suspected to be fair

She'd better go back to Dave if she wants to be Emperor. Civil War if she gets it, so much for stability.

It would set an interesting precedent. Obviously Chancellor Blaine would hold the real power at least initially, something like a Cardinal Richelieu figure. Whether he could maintain control is another matter. At the moment it seems that there is general support for Arissa. Do senators Patreus and Torval really have sufficient nerve and backing to challenge for the throne? It seem to me that Patreus may have his forces too thinly spread with all his other scheming and Torval would only join the fight if there was a good prospect of winning. On the other hand civil war in the Empire would be great for the Federation and various beleaguered Independent systems suffering from Patreus's interference.

It won't happen, if only for the reason that every single Empire owned Coriolis, Orbis and Occelus would have to have it's welcome message repainted.

I wonder if Aisling Duval could be a potential player in the contest. It would certainly upset many of the vested interests. Certainly there were be questions about Arissa's legitimacy if the Emperor did not live long enough to marry Florence.

Definitely an interesting development. Given the lore to date banning women from taking the throne (not in terms of denying female children from taking the throne, but in terms of preventing female children from being born in the first place). It seems to me from what I read, Aisling Duval is the product of a union from a father who broke away from tradition and allowed a female child to be born without using the usual techniques that would prevent one from being born. Of course, Arissa is another situation entirely.

As per my RP character, I would love to see what would happen if a woman took the throne. Perhaps she would have views that are similar to Marlin Duval's ideology back in the early years of the Empire before her brother had her murdered.

Murder was -never- proven, it could very well have been an accident. Either way it's impossible to say after so many years

I sincerely hope to see Aisling Duval have a proper shot at the throne

With the Emperor still in a coma and Senator Patreus stirring up things in the Senate, it's not looking good for Arissa's chances of gaining the throne. Interesting times for the Empire.

Aisling is Marlin Duval reincarnated, I'll be fighting for her as the only legitimate claim. I'll have no truck with double dealing honourless senators and sham the marriages they try to arrange between the dead and living. It's an affront to the Emperor's memory. so far as I'm concerned.

She's not really a claimant. If the Emperor dies, the throne will pass to Harold before her.

Indeed, Harold cannot take the throne, Arissa is illegitimate so only Aisling has a valid claim.

Chancellor Blaine, may wish to put Arissa on the throne, presumably so he can marry her off to a puppet of his choosing, but his opportunity has passed. I suspect Blaine has been trying to marry the Emperor's barely animated corpse to Florence in order to secure power for himself, I doubt he has a shred of honour... perhaps he even intends to marry Arissa himself? The Emperor, rest him, may have performed a mercy for the Empire by deteriorating beyond the point they can cover up his condition.

Mark my words this will mean civil war, between Senators overreaching themselves and federal-fifth columnists stirring up trouble, on behalf of supposedly legitimate claims, there can only be dark times ahead.
