Fiction Arissa Lavigny-Duval

OK, can be annoying submit yet another inconsistence but... why, for the glory of the Empire, the current emperor is a woman?
Always the FE2 gazetteer clearly states that "female children in the family are prevented with genetic techniques"...

These are dark times for the Empire. Next time I will read that slavery became illegal...

I think there was something about the father of SpaceKhaleesi being excluded from the line of succession.

and wasn't the founder of the empire a woman? just btw :D

Achenar started as a democracy (what a shame). Marlin Duval was the woman you're talking about, that was subsequently murdered and his brother, Henson Duval, became the first Emperor. Female emperors was "prevented" since then.

Check this out from Galnet.

Personally I reckon she is using the title 'Emperor' in order to stop having to repaint all the wording on the stations. ;)

Cheers,

Drew.

I remember reading somewhere a few women have been crowned "King", in one case at least because while there was no provision for a Queen, there was nothing saying a woman couldn't be King! When I heard Arissa was becoming the "Emperor", I immediately thought back to this. Keeping the “Emperor” title satisfies enough tradition (no “Empresses”), but passes over the intent of the old ways.

Quick wikipedia search: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Women_who_have_been_crowned_king

Edit: just realised I'm necro-posting. I have no idea how I ended up here and why I thought it was a recent thread. Sorry!

We mentioned it at the time. It was dismissed with a rather weak galnet article that announced that there 'had been a change' and Women could inherit, but the other thing wasn't covered. Which was.. odd

I wrote something way back that might help.

She does have good heritage, in terms of the background material though. This was from the News Journals in AD 3250 (Frontier: First Encounters).

EMPEROR DECREES DAY OF MOURNING
J.J.

His most exalted Excellency, Hengist Duval has graciously declared an Imperial day of mourning to commemorate the sudden demise of His trusted and esteemed advisor, Prince Aristide de Lavigny. Prince de L., who retired from a most honourable career at the Imperial Diplomatic Court earlier this year met with a mysterious accident at his home on Lake Parisot, Topaz.

Speculation is rife that Federal agents were responsible for subverting members of his staff who subsequently engineered the Prince's death. Captain Grieg of the Imperial Guard has been dispatched from Capitol to investigate the circumstances.

The Prince's empty coffin will lie in state in the Capitoline Memorial as a mark of respect and visitors wishing to view it are advised to apply in triplicate to the Imperial Funerary Department.
