Armament for Eagle? Bounty Hunter

I just purchased an Eagle for use in "bounty hunting". I just need some guidance in respect to what "firepower" I should purchase. Thanks.

I’m assuming you are a beginner. Most important is to equip and use a kill warrant scanner. This can more than double you profits. Put the KWS into the same fire group as your gimballed weapons you will use the most, and hold the trigger on the enemy until the scan is complete.

I equipped this build with 2 lasers and 1 multi. This provides you a mix of thermal and kinetic damage. I chose burst lasers because they provide a great compromise between burst DPS and sustained DPS. These are gimballed so that you can aim your fixed multi while simultaneously firing your gimballed lasers at the target. If both of these were fixed you would have to choose between one or the other since the lasers do not need to lead a target. Make sure you fixed multi is on the top hardpoint that way your gimballed lasers can point down at the target while you lead the target with the top mounted fixed multi.

The fixed multi does great damage, especially after the target’s shields drop. Learning with fixed multis also teaches you early how to use fixed weapons that require leading the target, a valuable skill. You could instead use a gimballed multicannon but it will donfar less damage and you will not learn to use fixed weapons organically.

Here is a build with a KWS but it first requires you to unlock Felicity Farseer and engineer your power plant to G1 Overcharged.

A lot of people here mentioning rails. Rails are fantastic especially on an eagle, but are advanced level weapons and require significant engineering to get them to work on An eagle.

Been a long time since I was in an Eagle..

But I seem to remember rail-guns were the "go to" weapon for BH'ing in an Eagle.

A reasonable build. Just replace the chaff launcher with a kill warrent scanner as you have suggested, and maybe the life support and sensors with D grade ones, to free up enough power for the KWS.

Also remember the Eagle's strength is its agility, not its durability... you want to use the vertical thrusters a lot to move out of the line of fire.

The greatest drawback of railguns is their very limited ammo supply. Docking after every few kills is not really efficient. Engineering is probably not an option for the OP, yet, and even with plasma slug the Eagle's tiny fuel tank wouldn't last very long.

Pulse lasers.

And pick your targets with care.
That ship, albeit extremely fun to fly, is paper thin.

I really like a pair of MC and a rail or a pair of burst lasers and a rail.

Toss in a few 1D HRPs to fix the wet noodle hull and it's great.

Very fun ship.

Eagle <yikes>.

You're either going to need a lot of luck or a lot of skill...

I'd go with rails. I'm not sure if the PD could keep something like beams going long enough and 2 x Small Multi's, well that might work if you pick you targets.

Do you have access to engineers?

In an Eagle, it is best you arm yourself with a Vulture!

Save your money, by pass the eagle and save for a Cobra. and above

***Forum Salt Warning RED ***This above advice, is purely IMHO, and bares no malice towards other successful Eagle pilots (Although that list is small).

Other than recently acquiring one for racing purposes it's a ship I never flew, going straight from the Sidey to the Cobra and thence to a Vulture.

Pulse lasers for shields, a seeker rack for hulls. Go after small targets.

If you can engineer them, you might try incendiary multis for shields.

Fun little ship.

I agree with anything Psylim wrote. The combinations of lasers and multi-cannon is a good start. I would not advise a beginner to pack railguns or anything like that. They are useful, but they are not a beginners weapon.
.
If anything, the progression path would be like this:
- first two gimbaled lasers and one gimbaled multicannon.
- When you feel confident in keeping your ship pointed at a target, try fixed lasers for a bit more of a punch.
- When you feel confident in distance control, try a regular gimbaled cannon instead of the multicannon and try to destroy the enemies power plant. That might not be faster, but it's good training.
.
Everything else comes after that. The priority of an Eagle pilot is to be agile and avoid incoming fire. Learning in a ship like this really teaches you important survival skills. There's plenty of pilots around, who started combat only on durable and heavily shielded ships. Many of them never learned some very basic evasion maneuvers. Their ship just did not teach them that evasion would be required. In the Eagle, you quickly learn that part, which will also be helpful when flying bigger ships. :)

For a bit more, here is a video I just made killing a Corvette in my Imperial Eagle. It is engineered with all fixed weapons though...

I don't know if I could crank out enough DPS with 3 small rails to bring down this Corvette. A 3 rail Imp Eagle wasn't able to output enough DPS!! Primary limitation on DPS is heat overload, so while 3 rails might seem like more DPS on paper, the fact that heat spikes by 40-60% (even with engineered rails for low thermal and thermal spread Power Plant!!!), you can only afford to shoot at most twice until waiting several seconds to cool back down.

Hi OP. The eagle and the ieagle are great fun in the res. Here are a few basic rules.

1) Kill steal.
2) Kill steal.
3) Kill steal.
4) Your friend is the high res. Wait for cops to attack someone. Go after a target already engaged.
5) Avoid wings. -(I could repeat that a few times)
6) Many builds are viable as a learner. No one build is king. You are not going to solo targets.
7) Pick as many different builds as possible to learn the weapons.
a) Gimballed pulse + 2 gimballed multicannon is an efficient starter set up.
b) Gimballed beam + 2 fixed frags or cannon on a separate trigger is a fun dip into fixed weapons.
c) Gimballed pulse + 2 rails can give you the feel that you are doing continuous damage, and will teach you how to manage the shot delay of rails (and a little bit about heat).
d) DO WHAT WORKS FOR YOU!
8) Pick up mats, like all of them for a while. Anacondas are the best pinatas around for mats. Go get em.
9) Parry 9. RUN if you start to take hull damage - don't waste your accumulated bounties for just one more.
10) Don't worry about the kws as a starter. Protect yourself. Shield booster or chaff.
11) Practice with the hat. Use that hat on your HOTAS for thruster control. Also remember your maneuverability peaks at about 50% thrust. Don't be afraid to toggle FA off for a bit more turning flexibility.

Good luck!

Eagles never shoot first and they don't trade punches. Getting hit is a no-no. Use cover, other ships, silent running and every drop of speed and maneuverability you've got to dodge fire. NEVER go for a bigger ship that has shields. Either pick on smaller stuff or wait to poach the kill until AFTER the big guy's shields are down because you will NEVER outlast bigger combat ships in a fair 1v1.

Am have always been amazed by the technology to build a space ship out of balsa wood.
Always carry plenty of glue.
