Armour kinetic resistance?

This may be a stupid question but does your kinetic resistance effect heavy impacts, like a hard landing without shields? Or is it just essentially bullet resistance?

I'm exploring so it's too late to change now but I did the hull boost mods to maximize armour health and I've noticed the resistances have either stayed at zero or gone down. Kinetic is at -19.2%. No one's going to be shooting at me but I didn't bring shields so I may take a few % hull damage on landings. I've got repair limpets but does anyone know if hull boost mods were the best way to go, or would a higher kinetic resistance prevent more damage? Thanks.
