Around the Galaxy in 80 days 2 - The voyage of Gloria Coelis

Day 267

Stepping into the void

The supercruise into the deep continues. As of this writing, Glory is 1.44 LY beyond Star One cruising at 2001C. I've turned off everything on the ship that is not necessary. Thus far we have cruised for 7.5 hours and have only burned off about a quarter of a tank of fuel. At this rate we still have more than 14 hours of cruising that we can do. I expect that we will easily be able to break 3 LY into the deep; a record that I don't expect will fall for quite some time.

Day 269

Voices from the deep

At 08:51:00 local time, after 3 flight shifts totaling 17 hours in supercruise, Gloria Coelis's low fuel alarm sounded. At 08:51:14, after assessing the situation, I dropped her back to minimal SC velocity. According to the sensors, we were 3.82 LY out into intergalactic space beyond Star One. I might, maybe have been able to eek out another 1 or 2 100ths of a LY before fuel became critical; but it was good enough.

I sent out a camera drone for a couple of beauty shots, and what shots they were. You can see one bright star above the plane of the Galaxy...that is Star One.

Having achieved what I set to do here, and gotten the proof (as the old addage goes...pics or it didn't happen), I turned Glory's tail to Andromeda and jumped back to the next nearest star and began the return trip inward along the route. I have since, come back some 6 jumps, even easily managing the giant leap just 3 jumps from Star One.

I have been asked if I will head next to Manifest Destiny. Sadly, a hard look at the stellar database shows that Glory does NOT have the range to make it there, as the very last jump is just over 106 LY...well beyond my boosted range. With that in mind, I have decided that we are going to make all speed to Point Decision some 33,000 LY distant to meet up with the Dead Ends Circumnavigation Expedition there before we pass eachother (sadly we are headed in opposite directions). I have just about 2 weeks to cover that distance, so this is going to be a little bit of a race.

Oooh, love the pics. Conda comes up nice in gold ;)

How did you get that decal? and of course...

Wishing you the best of luck on your journey!

[edit] it would appear that I am some 269 days late on wishing you well on your journey....

Thank you, and it's not too late as the journey isn't even half over yet :)
As far as the decal, I got it as a surviving member to the Distant Worlds Expedition.
