Arranging a overlay on the Rift CV1

Here is the thing, I am a horrible typist...

I want to open a small transparent windows that is looking from my webcam at my keyboard (Going to try use Envelope for Windows) so I can see where my hand is on the keys, can use VA to turn it on and off...

This would be useful with mods such as TCE as well.

Here's what you do.

1. You take a piece of cardboard or something, make an arch over your hands and keyboard.

2. Now do typing tests or learn to touch-type courses.

3. Profit.

I am disabled from a stroke... my hand that works is my off-hand and doesn't always tell me where is it going...
So... to put it simple... stop being a jerk

That wasn't nice. Dar|{cyde offered you advice knowing nothing about your stroke. Perhaps not the advice you wanted but valid advice all the same. And no there is not a application that will do this and work with the CV1 - for the Vive I believe there is.

His advice was not on how to solve the problem, but create a new one with the original problem still there.
And I disagree, I have made some adjustments to the Envelop settings to create a area range that doesn't get mapped over from the game... I think it is possible, just a matter of graphical layering.

Now, I did some assumptions that I have said that I am disabled so many times in pretty much every topic, and that I develop tools for disabled people that don't have full use of their hands, that it would be known. That WAS arrogant of me. And for that I apologize to Dar|{cyde.

I've never seen you on this board before, in particular the VR sub forum so I think its safe to assume that people may and in all likeliness not know you are disabled or that you develop tools for disabled people.

I said that there is not an application that currently does what you want for the Rift, you can disagree all you like but its the truth. I hope you have luck making one yourself and I too hope that it is possible.

Fear not foxpur - I've seen you about lots :)

A good thing (TM) would be to pop a line into your signature about tool development for the less able among us - a very worthy pursuit!

I just try to peer out with one eye past my nose and tap out the keys. But it is a good way to force your self to learn to touch type... I used to be able to (learned at school), then got lazy.
Unfortunately, its a slow process - I'm long sighted after cataract surgery and while I don't need glasses in the Rift, I can't see the keyboard clearly, so I'm doomed even if I do "lift the veil" [where is it]

I'll add that to the sig file.. :)

In my case I have 1 hand not working, and the other spasms randomly and has limited sense of touch so I have to redefine where the physical keyboard is and I never know where my own hand has decided to wander off to, so I need to keep an eye on it.
Now YES, I use VA, and foot pedals, but when it come to messages....

Also, this SAME tech will allow apps such as TCE to run using the Oculus, so it really will benefit all users. The camera view is just what I am working with, but the uses for VR tech is massive.
