Arsenic, where art thou?

So last week Friday, I decided I was going to get some arsenic for an FSD upgrade, I wanted to give it a shot, and since I just got horizons (Xbox) it gave me an excuse to drive around on planets.

About 5 planets later, and two “Metal Rich” rings I have over 400 material 18 Praseodymium and Zero Arsenic.

Of those planets, 3 I found on the forums stating that arsenic is available. Planets 1 and 4 in the system that contains the Farseer engineer, and I can’t remember the name of the third one.

So that was my weekend. I either have terrible luck or I am doing something wrong.

So I ask you guys, what the best way to find arsenic? What am i doing wrong?

I got crap loads of arsenic.

It came pre-2.1 though from "experimenting with" barnacles.

THis might not be of any help.

lol, yeah.

I am just wondering if i am looking in the wrong place.

Is there a specific type of rock that i need to look for on the planets? Am i more likely to find it in an outcrop or some meteorite?

Frontier, for reasons that can be best described as "mean" have massively reduced the drop rate for arsenic. It's intentional. Bad enough there is RNG, but to reduce the chance to near zero is - well - it's just plain mean.

I spent three hours driving in Deciat this evening (on a planet that is known to drop arsenic, and has done so (once) for me; zero arsenic. Even painite is less of a pain! So far ~5-6 hours of driving over two days, equates to 1 (one) drop. I am.. unimpressed.

And despite flavour text, it's drop rate from asteroids appears to be 0 (zero); two mining trips that have resulted in other materials used for engineers dropping in at least some small numbers.

Potentially the drop rate is so low, as to be virtually zero.

edit: checking my numbers it's one drop, not two. crikey.

Is it perhaps a bug that the drop rate is so low?

I may fly out there and give them a shot. Thanks.

Good luck. I have tried a few so called "plenty" locations and come up dry. Sounds like you either find half a dozen over a couple hours, or zero over the same period. Gotta love RNG. *groan*

Mucking around last night I saw two missions offering arsenic.

So it is a mission reward, just checking a few stations might be enough.

The pool of mission rewards is so huge it would take more than "Just checking a few stations". ;)

But yeah, with 2.1/1.6 Arsenic was changed from a grade 2 (Common Element) to a grade 3 (Element). As such it's much harder to come by now, and in typical Frontier logic Commons, Rares and very rares are easy(ish) to come by..... but standard types are the rarest types of items in the entire galaxy. It happens with manufactured materials as well, I've got dozens of various rare manufactured materials but never once come across their standard variant or if I have I have something like 2 units of the standard type compared to 15+ of the 'rare' or 'very rare'.

i was having the same problem, here's my cheat sheet: (systems in bold followed by planet) 12 Persei - A3 was best for me...

KUI 11 B 1 Arsenic
15 ursae majoris 1 Tellurium
NLTT 22699 4 A Vanadium Cadmium Selenium Ruthenium
HYADES SECTOR DL-X C1-16 1 Niobium Molybdenium
SYNUEFE FG-F C14-14 1 Yttrium
14 I ORIONIS 1 Vanadium, Germanium, Tellurium, Niobium, Zirconium
14 I ORIONIS 9 Vanadium, Yttrium, Niobium
SOL Mercury Ruthenium
Alpha centauri B 1 Tungsten
4 Beta Trianguli A 1 Ruthenium, Mercury, Vanadium
4 Beta Trianguli B 1 Technetium, Vanadium
ALGOL A 1 Ruthenium
12 PERSEI A 1 Tungsten
12 PERSEI A 2 Yttrium, niobium
12 PERSEI A 3 Tungsten, Molybdenium, Selenium, arsenic
Delkar 5 A Polonium, Tungsten, Zirconium, Vanadium, Germanium
GCRV 1568 B 1 Polonium, Cadmium

If you dont have any joy, when i get home from work ill post where i recently found 7 units in 15 minutes.
I bookmarked the location but i cant for the life of me remember the system name

But your pointing at the system..... it is over there ------->

Feel free to post it. I managed to find two running around a planet for an hour. It was wonderful to see that discovered material pop up. 😀

Also, a buddy of mine told me to try running around a crater, that seemed to do the trick, but most things I have read states that it doesn't matter where you drive. Anyone have any thoughts on that?

I found more common materials inside craters as opposed to mountain tops - but again, this could just the games RNG playing tricks on me [big grin]

Duedy, i was in zero G (and drunk) when the photo was taken, could have been pointing anywhere [wacky]
