Great thread
I wondered if the UA audio might sound like star audio when sped up but i haven't found any matches yet.
If you speed the audio up 15,000 percent, it does sound a little like the audio at system WREDGUIA PC-G B39-2, it has the same number of rising blips but the pitch sounds waaaay off.
When i listen to stars in the galaxy map by selecting them, zooming right in and hovering the mouse over them, the sound is still fairly faint, even after adjustng all the relevant volumes in the audio menu, is there an option i've missed ?
The audio at the digital scream (cool name) site sounds like it's been slowed down, i've listened to it at a variety of speed multipliers (from 100 to 15,000 percent) but still have no ideas.
Here's some audio from digital scream (ua_1.mp3) that is sped up by 1000% :

I'll have to read the audio analysis threads in full after i've read this one.
The spectogram is potentially interesting.
If you download the original ua_1.mp3 from here :
http://digitalscream.org.uk/audio/ua_1.mp3
And then this visualisation software :
http://www.sonicvisualiser.org/download.html
Load up the MP3, go to the Layers menu and add any spectogram (try them all).
Some of the content looks like writing but nothing that makes sense yet.
Here is ua_1.mp3 after the first spectogram in the list was applied and i zoomed in and out a bit via mousewheel which (de)compresses the time-scale :
I'm sure stuff like this has already been tried by the audio people working on this, ill have to read up.
All the best,
DC.
