General Artificial Market Crashes?

So I went to the station paying the most for Painite (I had 544T of the stuff representing 2.5 hours or thereabouts of mining). I noticed that the price of Painite was about 1/7th the price listed on EDDB or Inara. After digging around a bit, it appears that if I transport only 100T to the station then I can sell for the maximum price. So I build a special 100T cargo ship, bought back my Painite in 100T lots from the FC, and made six flights to and from the station just to get the maximum price.

Is this some incredibly lazy and incompetent attempt by FDev to implement supply/demand-like price crashing? This is a truly impressive low of engineering effort FDev.

Prices should reflect the mass behavior of players' buying/selling activities, not just one commander's. Furthermore, I should know the price that will be honored beforehand by looking at the buying prices of stations as per such tools as Inara and EDDB. How much cargo I am currently hauling should be irrelevant.

Have at it FDev apologists. But AFAIAC this is a new low of FDev laziness. I hope it is just a stop-gap for implementing a real fix.

This, is, I think, referred to as the 'bulk sales tax'. Lazy way to implement fake supply/demand price crashing? Maybe. I think, as with most of these features/bugs, no one really knows what is going on. FD are not communicating, providing information about this AFAIK, so we have to make our own theories and tinfoil conspiracies, a bit like how Raxxla works! Maybe a functioning economy is a state of enlightenment we must find within ourselves...

"Sales tax" my gluteus maximus.

New low 😂 bulk tax has been in game since 2014. Also I don't think you fully understand how it works. A 100 tonne capacity ship is not efficient,if you are really that desperate to save every last credit and bit of precious time, you haul according to each stations current demand.

Like it or not, bulk tax has been explained by the devs, it has been understood by truckers for years. The latest LTD greedfest brought it the masses.

 If it actually only sets in at low demand, it makes a lot of sense, but why not recalculate price according to demand change? Isn't the way demand change affects price really simple anyway?
A game director in an archived thread said:
It's a mechanism used to aid price balancing for low demand, high value goods to reduce the impact of flooding markets with those goods.

What is this? Someone at frontier caring about how the commodity market works? Someone at frontier responding to a thread in dangerous discussion that isn't about memes? 2015 sure was a wacky time...

I went to the station (Chang-Diaz Station) that according to Inara was buying 1T painite for 792,088 CRs. When I got there with a load of 544 painite, the price was 132K CRs per ton or somesuch. If I sell in 100T batches, I sell each painite for 792,088 CR per ton.

You tell me what that is then.

Then this is not that tax. I have been selling to stations since 2015 TYVM (but I admit I have not sold painite for a few months since the LTD rush became a thing).

Feel free to argue with the Ghost of Micheal Brooks. I genuinely don't care. Just thought your post was amusing.

So you want the price of commodities at the nearest station to plummet to 0 within hours and stay there and for this effevt to ripple outwards further and further as time goes by?

I see so adds big money-making commodities to some list that gets this ginormous price nerf unless sold in small batches. Then I guess the last time I sold painite was two years ago which is when it was added to the list. And now LTDs are on the list too I presume.

Whether I sell 500T all in one go or 100T per trip, either way the station's demand gets 500T total. So it makes absolutely no sense to nerf the price in this way.

This is so incredibly lame. Maybe not a new low of laziness but a phenomenal low nonetheless.

Since 2014? Wrong. See the January patch notes.

You don't need to lie to make your point.

And this explains why late last year when I sold painite in bulk there was no price nerf and I am only just noticing now as it's been LTD mining that is the thing.

All you have managed to do (again), FDev, is come up with yet another way to waste players' time.

It does though as it is simulating the impact that a bulk shipment to the market will have, giving a subjective drop in demand.

I can confirm, noobs, January update got the smackdown.

Supply and demand volumes were "added". Certainly not in 2014 when the game came out. (or specifically, close to launch)

Supply and demand volumes have been a part of the game since commodity markets were introduced. Working supply and demand is a different question, but what has been working and what has not seems to have changed a lot over time.

It's interesting that the patch note claims to have added supply and demand for LTD's when people on the mining subreddit still report that LTD demand resets to max every market tick!

This is the change they made months ago, that you've just realised, but claim is a "new low"? How many other lows did you miss?

possibly made months ago and discovered recently due to not having a need for mining until now. Believe it or not, some people do it to relax, but maximise profits when the opportunity arises.

Myself included. 18+Bcr in my account and enough in my FC account to fund it for 8 years... Do I need to mine? no. But still do. Selling my goods? like anyone else at the best price achievable.
