Ship Builds & Load Outs Artillery/Long Range Corvette

Hey,

So, uh, I've been wanting to do an "artillery" build for my corvette for awhile now. Basically to get rid of the weird dogfight-based combat in the bigger ships, and generally act like a "capital" ship, even though a corvette-sized ship is nowhere near an actual capital ship. I'm planning on flying in a wing, so ideally I won't be 1-on-1 with faster, more agile ships that'll just close the distance and kick my butt within the first 10 seconds of combat. SLF is also a part of what I have in mind, either an NPC or a commander.

I'd like opinions and advice regarding weapons/mods/maybe some PvP hints from people who've done more of that.

I was thinking on the lines of maybe huge PAs, medium gimb beams with the healing effect so I could support my wing, small turrets of some kind and maybe large gimb cannon.

Dunno though. Currently flyinf a 2x huge MC, rest gimb beams build and I'm loving that.

Similar tactics are in use by some groups that mix ships in their wings. This type of coordination takes a lot of practice, not only in the flying but in the communication and the outfitting of individual ships.

As far as a long range role as artillery support, most weapons have a effective range and a fall-off soon afterward, and w/ PA's, if the round is some distance away, can be evaded. Not really artillery in the historical sense, unless FD sees fit to make battle against capital ships a reality, other than the adornment it is now.

Right now, the Corvette is really a heavy fighter and very effective in PvE, not so much in PvP because it is very expensive to buy, outfit and re-buy (not to mention the grind for rank). PvP sees the medium to small ships dominate because they are inexpensive and can be effective offensively. Another factor is that making credits has been nerfed and a 40 mill re-buy is not easy to recoup ATM.

Your best bet to experience what you describe is to join a group and fly in their wings, I think that's is as close as you're going to get to your plan. Good luck.
