Fiction As a first into Elite lore, Reclamation is excellent!!

I finally bit and tried the audible copy of elite reclamation.. wow, it was great.

Just like reading zahn first for star wars.. id say reclamation matches the same caliber of new lore universe / experience. Huge good story grin.

The audiobook was excellent with recurring theme music and many different sound effects from the game.. but id honestly look for a different narrator.. sure he was excellent but there was 2 jarring issues:

- The guy has a constantly gruff tone, like he has a chip on his shoulder or wants to get the reading done as quickly as possible. This keeps you on the edge of your seat for the entire duration, but it makes the text seem like there are no quiet or introspective moments, i had to do a double take the text is nicely balanced it was just the narrator. He bowled over the introspective bits.. and its elite.. the space simulator.
- The main character in the book, both in meaning and stage is female. The main villain is female. The guy does the most terrible female voice imaginable. Im not a master of males doing female voices by a long shot, but at least the narrator of the Witcher novels Peter Kenny does a far better job. If there was no ladies in reclamation the guy would have been perfect but sadly that isn't the case.

Anyways, thats my only critique, i really enjoyed the story, glad and excited to have read it.

Ps. Should i stop at reclamation until the new book? Because what happened in star wars was every book after was simply worse than the first one.. looks like it may be the same here too?

Thanks. I composed the music for it. Chris Jarvis did a great job putting it together.

No, I don't think you should stop, there's some great stuff amongst the collection from a variety of sources. I wouldn't limit yourself to audio either.

Nice one. Yeah i definitely enjoyed the music themes, both the beautiful and ominous ones. Hope you get to work on more of them!

Won't happen for a variety of reasons, although Lave Revolution's audio drama may eventually come out. I donated the music (my work) for free for three of the audiobooks mainly to ensure they got made and that the Radio Theatre Workshop got off the ground. Chris Jarvis and I went to university together twenty one years ago (yikes!). He's super talented at what he does.

We still work on things. My music is used in his licensed Elite Dangerous audio drama series, Escape Velocity.

It is a problem with audio narration. I would have liked a woman to read those parts, but a) there's the cost of multiple narrators and b) you start getting into dramatisation territory which requires a substantial rewrite of the original novel. Currently the audiobook is an unabridged (well almost) reading. That said, I also found Toby's narration a little hurried on first listen, but it does grow on you when you listen again.

Elite Dangerous: Premonition will (in part) be a sequel to Elite: Reclamation, so that story will continue. But the other books tell their own tales in the Elite Dangerous universe and it's certainly big enough for many many other adventures. We all deliberately avoided the "save the galaxy" epic you often find in space opera to concentrate on more 'local' story telling.

The other books do have different styles (some are comedies, which has thrown a few people expecting them all to be serious stories). Have a look at the Amazon reviews to see what people think and make your way from there.

Glad you enjoyed Reclamation though!

Cheers,

Drew.

Hey Drew, sorry about my post mainly complaining about the audiobook. The story you painted i enjoyed very much. Definitely interested to see how the adventures continue on. I guess i quite enjoy audiobooks however.. and just in case: https://youtu.be/WH4BCtL48n8?t=1h9m35s (first sample found 5+mins should do it).

Thank you very much for writing the story! Looking forward to the next one.

No problem! I think it's all valid feedback. :) Hopefully we'll get an audiobook of Premonition too.

Cheers,

Drew.

Drew,

Thanks for the great book, look forward to seeing how the story unfolds in the new book! Sorry we couldn't defend you from Harry Potter... what an A-hole !

I would make him the most vile, nasty, disgusting human in the universe in the new book... you know not far off the real thing! LOL

Also YES Please you have to make this into an Audio Book format... I really enjoyed the acting and the sound effects in the previous book, it gives more life to the story vs just one person narrating. [up] [cool]
