As of v2.2.03, what is your general opinion of ED?

Hi Everyone,

Given certain discussions and threads recently it had triggered an idea to generate a (not intentionally polarised) forum poll on how people view the game as individuals or at least trigger some balanced discussion on what is good or bad about the game without trying to claim (IMO) pointless majority/minority statements wrt every player of ED as a whole.

I don't seem to be able to create the poll (forum polls seem to have been disabled) but here are the options I would have put in it:-
  1. I find the game boring currently or do not enjoy it and currently do not see the situation as changing (effectively do not trust FD)
  2. I find the game boring currently or do not enjoy it but do see a bright future for the game (effectively trust FD)
  3. I find the game boring currently but still enjoy it (effectively trust FD)
  4. I do not find the game boring and enjoy it. (effectively trust FD)
  5. I am just impatient for 2.3 (effectively trust FD)
  6. Other (please explain view in thread)

I think I would be an option 4 (or maybe a 5 - but only by a smidgen).

4 and 5. I enjoyed messing around in the beta for a bit with the new features, but I'd rather not spend more time on things that won't carry through to 2.3 live.

1-2: main game boring for me.

I do play some CQC every now and then, do a bit of credit-grind (exploiting?) sometimes and watch powerplay happenings, desperatly hoping some development will go into it some time in the not so far future. Else playing other games and trying to do more outdoor activities with spring at the door-step.

Strongly 4 here. I do disagree with some of their implementations, i do think CQC was a waste of time (well, not entirely, as it gave some building blocks for SLFs in the game and some ertra assets), and powerplay was terribly implemented, but despite those things, it gives me a game which i simply cannot stop playing.

Worth every penny to me.

As for 2.3, the new camera is great, multicrew is going to be ok for me, i can jump in someone else's ship without risking my own and gain credits or people can join me in my ship i'm currently getting ready for it, and finally holome is adding an extra welcome layer of immersion.

So, on the 2.3 front, no real complaints... and of course, the love the Saud Kruger ships are getting, that's pretty awesome.

Other: I find this game to becoming less and less an Elite game, and more and more a generic space shooter with an Elite skin. I also find this game to be less and less an engaging experience, and more something to waste some time with, emphasis on waste.

They disable polls because people are making lame polls that are hard to understand or don't give other options kinda like option 6 here so a player and explain their views.

But I agree with Darkfyre99

Now here's the thing. I haven't played ED for around 5 months now, other than briefly checking a couple of things. I was certainly getting a little bored when I stopped. Which wasn't that surprising, since I'd just flown from Colonia to Beagle Point and back. I needed a break, after playing fairly solidly for a year. I played other games for a bit, but just as I was thinking of getting back to ED, my graphics card failed. And when I'd got that replaced, family matters took up a lot of my time. And then my rudder pedals packed up. [rolleyes] Now I've got everything sorted again (fingers crossed), I expect I'll put some serious time into ED. And no doubt if I do, eventually I'll want to give it a rest again. So is the game boring? Yes, if I play it long enough without a break. But most things get boring eventually. Which is why I like to have options. I've got other games on the go that I likewise play for bit and then move on: IL-2 Battle of Stalingrad etc. Rise of Flight. Silent Hunter 3 & 4. DCS (though I never seem to stick with it for that long). European/American Truck Simulator when I feel like something relaxing. Besiege, for when I get a brainwave for another medieval contraption. And so on. I wouldn't want to play any of them exclusively. I've paid out a fair bit of cash for games, but with most of the above, I've got my money's worth. And that is certainly true of ED. I don't buy games with the expectation of playing them exclusively, because I know I need variety. And on that basis 'being boring if I play too much' isn't a sensible criteria to reject a game. The question is whether I will get enough enjoyment out of the game to justify the cost. I've already done that with ED, and am ready for more.

1-2.... but about thrusting FD i'm sustained till i see what will 2.4, 3.0 and 3.x content will be and than i will compare delivered features with promised in KS vids.
In a half year we will know a lot more, now is bad time for certain conclusions.

You mean 2.2.3 and not 2.2.03 right?
I'm mostly 4. I hope they move on from 2.3 and straight to season 3.
This whole time on 2.3 and a limited multicrew with no walking around the cockpit seems set for the PS4 release. Hopefully ED gets a massive influx of new PS4 players and Fdev continues on the original plans for seasons 3 to 10. With real multicrew and hiring of NPC's, hiring escort ships, spacelegs, game hunting, shops in stations and player outposts, multi-fleets, and all the rest of the game changing things in the future, etc.

worth every second and every penny. my childhood dream. it's FFE+ with the stability of FE2 and graphics and combat beyond xwing. solid 4.

and what i think of 2.2.3 - mpew does not matter a whole lot to me personally but i'm glad it's there and i have plenty of useful updates and fixes from the patch - so absolutely happy.

I'm somewhere between 1 and 2. I usually log in and then back out 10 minutes later when I realize there's nothing challenging to do. This game has mostly been something pretty to look at, but after seeing it all, there's nothing left for motivation.

Rant: Where I lack trust comes mostly from their style of gameplay development. They made new weapons through engineer upgrades instead of new standalone weapons, making me think they don't plan to add anything new there in the future. They made sensor upgrades instead of reworking their function in a way that suggests we won't ever see long distance scenarios. The flight model is a tiny bit too simplified, more excessively for SRV controls. Ships accelerate a bit too fast while having a bit too low of a top speed, completely demolishing the practicality of evasive maneuvers and making ships feel much smaller than they really are. Diminishing return functions and armor piercing values were added in place of balanced negative upgrade side effects. The function of ship heat has also degraded for similar reasons, cheap and non-creative upgrade effects. Making a career out of combat requires spending 95% of time searching for systems, only to find they want you to deliver cargo during times of war. In fact, I'd say due to the quality of missions in the game, they practically don't exist to me. Powerplay is nothing but a pamphlet distribution service. There are no combat challenges in the game (other than PvP) once a player gets to the level of Vulture. The insurance and bounty systems are abysmal, coupled with jump mechanics that let anyone with an IQ higher than a ham sandwich easily avoid confrontation. There are newblets posting to reddit on a weekly basis how they flew without rebuy because they didn't know how it works. Their entire philosophy behind gameplay itself revolves around time investment and grinding. The AI ships are so dumb they don't even wear their shoes on the right feet. An Elite ship can't even use boost to chase someone down. You can't join multicrew and also be in a wing. SLFs come in 8 packs and die instantly like they are just intelligent missiles. They are controlled by manufactured humans instead of an RC camera. Thrusters and shields turn off if you crash into a skimmer. Stations can be turned off by just selling alien turds. Oh and lastly, stars are about as bright as a dead flashlight.

The only thing I have hope for is that Thargoid combat comes to the game and presents some kind of challenge for my disgustingly OP ships. However, due to the ship completely shutting off during every cinematic encounter they've given us, I might suspect we will never be able to actually fight them. My fear is I will wake up one morning, hop on youtube after they drop a patch and see a video of the next cinematic discovery. Boom, I just experienced ALL the content they made without even logging in.

So yeah, do I feel hope or not? Aside from the asset modelers, (seriously amazing work) I haven't been impressed once by a single patch since Horizons came out.

The "poll" options are a bit flawed. Three options to call the game boring and only one option to say that it isn't boring (options 5 and 6 don't explicitly make a judgement on this). Oh well ... all polls are flawed which is why you have to include the obligatory "other" option.

I'm going with option six. "Other".

I still play Elite: Dangerous almost every day ... even if it's only for a few minutes. When I look at the amount of time that I've played the game I'm quickly reminded that the money I've spent on this particular game is the single best investment of my entertainment spending that I've ever budgeted. For the most part I've ignored Engineers beyond getting to grade 5 with Felicity Farseer and, for almost a year now, totally stepped away from the combat aspect of the game. I was ranked "Dangerous" back then but after a game reset my combat rank has stayed at "Harmless" since April 2016.

I genuinely enjoy traveling around the galaxy and seeing what's out there. One of the highlights was leading an expedition to find Cassiopeia A. Even though it doesn't exist in the game the search for Cassiopeia A was engaging and purposeful. I won't quit talking about it until Frontier Developments does what they did with Trappist-1 and add it to the game.

I don't find the game boring at all. I find it relaxing.

1.

From beta, game has slowly devolved into just a space shooter, Dev's main focus seems to be to create as many items as possible to add to the store. The Newsletter has no 'news' but there's always room to plug the latest weekly paint pack in the store.

They spent a year on HoloMe, I can almost hear the pitch at the Dev meeting 12months ago. 'We spend a year on this then recoup our costs by selling extra's in the store, these 'muppets' (us) will buy anything we sell there'.

Having spent almost an entire year without any weapons on my hardpoints I have to disagree with Elite being "just a space shooter". There are lots of things to do in the galaxy that don't require combat. Head over to the exploration sub forum sometime.

Lost my trust to Fd.

Development is moving slowly and progressing toward targets differents from what was promised.

Not multicrew npc is an example.

Except 2.0 and 2.1 which werw good additions to the game the rest of the expansion are simple not what I was expecting and taken to much time to be developed.

I never log more than 1\2 hour a week.

In short:

I find the game boring currently or do not enjoy it and currently do not see the situation as changing (effectively do not trust FD)
