Asistence with SIMPLIFIED concise VR install instructions for PC please

I'm thoroughly confused by all the different instructions for the installation of ED for VR on my PC, could someone please be so kind as to describe in bullet form the pertinent sequence required, my guess below. (this is a clean install on e new PC).

1). Install ED for PC.
2). Plug in controller and setup bindings on monitor. ensure ED can be played on monitor.
3). Close ED.
4). Install CV1 software.
5). plug in CV1 headset, (open CV1 software to optimise ?)
6). Start ED and play in VR.

Thanks.
edit the dyslexic number sequence.....

It does depend somewhat on what the spec is of your PC, as you may want to choose a particular graphics setting. However, going from memory;
1, Go into Options Menu.
2, Go into Graphics Menu,
3, From Display choose appropriate VR option (headphones, speakers).
4, From Quality choose which VR mode works best on your PC (I, because my PC easily exceeds the recommended spec, can us VR Ultra).
5, Enjoy (if I have got this list right)!

I assume that my Installation order is correct and that your step 1 is from within ED's settings ?. do I apply your instructions after installing all the above ?.

OP, I assume, based on your steps, that you have chosen to launch ED through the ED Launcher rather than through the Oculus App? If yes, you will need to go into the settings of the Oculus App and enable 'Unknown sources' before starting ED. Other than that your steps are OK after including step 3 from HellRazor's advice. (FYI nothing to optimize in the Rift software)

p.s. you might want to re-think your numbering scheme :) :)

Fixed it for ya.

Is the "hmd" option even available? It wasn't for me.

If so you can claim an oculus key on the frontier website and install through oculus or launch the normal install in vr with the drkaii profiler tool.

I didn't know that there's two ways of launching ED in VR, why have two methods of launching ED. which method provides better performance, do I have to get the Oculus Key ?.

It doesn't make a difference. I personally think it's unnecessary faff unless you literally put your HMD on the moment you boot your PC and live in it until you turn the PC off.

I think they removed the option from the menu as part of the deal with oculus that allows you to generate an oculus key on the frontier site. But you can still use the option if you type it in the config file or use a 3rd party tool to change it.

Shouldn't have an impact on performance since in either case you're just running the oculus software and the game.

4). Install CV1 software.
5). plug in CV1 headset and go through several minutes of HMD setup
6). If no audio through Rift, ensure Windows audio is being sent to Rift Audio Device. Click speaker in system tray.
7) Open Oculus, go to Options, and enable apps to run from unknown sources
8). Start ED, go to Graphics settings, set 3d to HMD (Headphones)

Don't want to clutter your list...but while setting up the Rift video quality, you may have read about fiddling with the Oculus Debug Tool. No need to do that. All relevant settings are in-game.

0). Do Not Use the Main Board Integrated Graphics Ports to a Monitor.

Elite Dangerous in VR will not run if a VGA monitor is plugged into the Main Board Integrated Graphics port, the game will hang when launched and in VR the message "Elite Dangerous is taking a long time to load, etc.....) will appear.

Use only the Ports on the graphics card.
The installation worked perfectly with Graphics Card HDMI > Oculus, and a Display Port > HDMI cable to TV as main monitor.

If you're using a Rift, an alternative is to install ED via the Oculus software and launch it through that (if you don't already have it on there, you should be able to obtain a key for it by logging into your account on the ED website and checking under 'Partner Keys').

ED will not load in VR irrespective of installation location if a Monitor is plugged into the Main Board's Integrated graphics Port.

This is likely true as even having the intergrated card enabled at all is a non-supported configuration is recommended against.

In regard to your other post: I trust that you got Oculus Dash working to provide you with an on-screen keyboard for your Galmap issues.

I haven't gotten round to getting the virtual keyboard to work, still fiddling with graphics settings. I've been using the lift headset/keyboard method for now as I don't launch ED from within Oculus.

I'm currently trying to overcome SRV induced nausea. I know exactly what causes it, the instant stop from longitudinal motion and instant changes in direction, my brain just can't cope with those unreal instant transitions, the bile rises quickly, slowly I'm trying to program my brain to accept these unrealistic/sudden changes in motion/direction.

If the SRV nausea doesn't abate I'll have to resort to 2D for SRV work and VR for the rest. (and whilst in 2D I'll do map text input).
