Ask the community what kind of shooter we want

(for those who just want a breakdown there is a TLDR at the bottom)
so this is probably the biggest suggestion i can give the developers, Let us design odyssey together.

Elite is in a somewhat odd position in where you are taking one game, which was a spaceship flying game, and you are throwing in another compleatly different element, space leggs, however your player base is the same. Not only do you have the same player base but they have been your player base for many many years at this point. This brings us to an important topic, what sort of on foot experiance would the players, that you have been hosting for the last 8 years want too see, as well as what new players would want to experiance. And what sort of vision would still fit in what the developers want to create.

So here is my suggestion, Firstly start with a poll and ask the comunity what sort of first person shooter they want. Do they want something hyper realistic a bit like "arma3" (i wouldnt reccomend that one), maybe a step or two down from that like "squad", another step down maybe "The cycle", further down you would get "battlefield", and then followed by things like "COD" and "Overwatch".

Then ask the comunity what they would like to see outside of the combat. ie the logistics, should your overall weight matter when constructing an on foot loadout, do we want infinite ammo crates and energy dispencers or do we want to factor limmited reasorces into how we play, what kind of weapon and suit customization would we want on our gear. should our inventory be only limited to materials or should we be able to put spare ammo and granades in our backpacks and so on.

And lastly open up a long term testing environment where the players and the developers can just test all of these ideas and more in order to really pin down what would be a good fit for the odyssey experiance. Either open a PTU for odyssey that will be open constantly allowing the devs to just rapid fire test all sorts of ideas with the comunity or alternitively give us an of foot CQC option with the same purpose.

Odyssy, despite its flaws, is probably the most amazing step forwards ive ever seen any game make. It looks beutifull, there has been a fantasic attention to detail as far at the settlements are concerned and the potential of this update is mindblowing but we have a long way to go. Lets build that future together :)

2. Open a testing environment for the comunity and developers to test all the wierd and wonderfull ideas to try make this game into the experiance we all want it to be :D


And just a final note, the elite dangerous comunity is probably the most mature and fantastically generous comunity ive ever had the pleasure of interacting with, dont be afraid to talk to us. im aware that the odyssey release was recieved poorely however that was primerily down to very poor comunication prior to odysseys release. its okay to tell us when you need more time as long as you show us where you are having problems, and give us better insight onto where you want to take the elite experiance (im not talking about story spoilers here im talking abotu game design and mechanics).
Trust me we are one of your best reasorces and we are happy to contribute.

Why shooter? I need on foot exploration that is currently missing. On foot mining. on foot scavenging of space ships and abandoned bases and so on...
well i did address that...

but to clarify these are intricately connected, having a very good foundation for a shoorter (movement, damage, reasourse management) will build into making a better experiance outside of combat

The problem with Space Legs is none of it is in Space.
Remember Odyssey is just the begining, simpily by releasing odyssey and space leggs frontier has shown their intention to take elite further.
If anything this is evidence that they will take space leggs into zero g its just a matter of time. gotta iron out dem kinks first. :p

I am just a player.
The game have tons of things to do. And if I don't like something I don't do it. I believe they have some statistic data to analyze and make conclusions.
Also I can provide feedback about implementation.
But do not design it, thanks.

And the last thing. What if the game has been designed completely at 2014 and currently it is being implemented?... that makes any feature suggestions and discussions utterly useless.

1. I'd rather play a game designed by FDev and not by committee
Yea, i know it's supposed to be a bridge to ferry ideas to FDev's game designer - but that's not working since people will have zounds ideas that do not work well together
So no, a game is best designed by a single person or a well fused small team

2. I'm not paying for it, will you?
And again, my time is limited, i'd rather play a game that i enjoy instead of testing more or less stu weird ideas
 
And anything based on what the community wants is doomed to fail anyway. Something like that would require a more or less uniform idea of the community. But that is precisely the popular illusion of those who confuse their inner circle of friends with the community.
I think this is a misunderstanding, im not sugesting that we idea for idea quote and implament what the public votes or or wants (the game would disintegrate into memes if that where the case)
but rather give the developers more tools to help understand what kind of people are playing their game and what kind of experience would best interest the player base that the developers would like to cultivate.

Not seen any Roadmap, dev post or stream saying anything at all about what is in the future for Space legs that are currently not in space.

I barely can believe they've started making the game without any ideas.
