I would be very very dissapointed if OR support was dropped and it was vive only.

Personally I do not think it will happen however. IMO the fewer exclusive titles for a given HMD the better. I still have no idea which consumer one i will buy, but I want it to be based on which is the better unit for my needs and wallet, and not which one has had the owners grease the palms of the most devs to lock out competitors.

sorry but I understand another think with tris comment. "we cannot guarantee future compatibility. We will keep you posted."

Offcourse at this moment is speculation from me, but I want a developer to explain it to us, because I understand another thing when I read that line.and yes I have seen this problem before in other games, also remain without oculus support.

IMO. I would not want to lose the only thing that makes this game different from the rest. Besides it makes me wonder what will happen to the cv1 and elite?

Well, realistically isn't that a normal trend when you are dealing with a developer kit model, with a consumer version not far off? Eventually they are going to cease support for a developer kit. That is to be expected. One reason i'm surprised people are still buying the DK2 this close to a consumer release. Not only that, you have the VIVE coming out in November, THIS YEAR.

It was a great question. :)
They seemed pretty excited about VR to me. Did you get the same vibe about the Vive being better than the Oculus?

From everything i've seen, the Vive is a very impressive set of hardware. Those that I follow regularly doing reviews on VR, through every iteration of the Oculus, came out of the Vive demos in awe, talking about its tracking accuracy (lighthouse system), and a consistent sense of presence. Not only that, it was designed with broader specs in mind. The lighthouse system can track you whether you are sitting in a chair, laying on the floor, or walking around your room. It was designed from the ground up with that freedom in mind. I think Valve and HTC kinda got the jump on Oculus on this aspect. That type of freedom will shine in games like Elite Dangerous, especially if you have a cockpit to walk around in.

I personally will be buying both. I welcome the competition between the two companies and any others that come to the table to compete in the VR market, because that drives innovation, and will benefit us as consumers in the long run.

great minds and all that...... I have done the same. maybe if he is mail bombed this morning about the issue it will encourage him to give the big dogs at FD a little nudge for some info ;)

Did you get a reply? I heard nothing back yet

nope :( if i do i will be back here in a shot, tho ideally a mod will just reply in this forum rather than send multiple PMs out.

like it or hate it as a game, or its marketing, 1 think I love about CIG and Star Citizen is their continual updates for where they are with bugs and what not. it keeps people in the loop, helps players realise why things are delayed as well as giving something interesting to read about when on the bog ;)

We need actual prodution models and at this point we don't need wasted dev time on prototype equipment/software.

I just had a reply to my PM. he reiterated what they said in the official post, stick with 0.5 SDK if you want to play elite with VR and will post back when there is more official info.

Yeah I got one too...

Hi Stephen,

Thanks for the message. Right now a Q&A might be difficult but certainly something to keep in mind for the near future.

We recognise and that VR is a fantastic way to play Elite for sure but I worry that, as you suggested, with so many companies, technologies and early stage developers there might be very little we can actually disclose at this stage.

Zac

Hype: This obviously implies that Frontier are not only going to support ALL of the major VR brands out of the box, but are clearly building their own device in partnership with NASA that has built in low persistence and time travel capabilities! :p
