General / Off-Topic ASMR (or Brain Tingles). Do You Get Them?

I do! I've tried explaining it to my girlfriend, and people at work, no one else gets it.
And often just gives me funny looks. Lol

ASMR ( Autonomous Sensory Meridian Sesponse), or Brain Tingles, is an odd sensation, triggered seemingly at random by random things.
Nothing at all sexual in nature, usually (at least not me anyway).
It often feels like static, or tingling sensation on your head, and works it's way down your neck and back.

I personally find the sensation oddly relaxing.

Mines usually triggered by soft speaking, usually directed at me, anyone touching my hair. Doesn't matter if they're male or female, even animals can trigger it.
Even just thinking about it and trigger a mild brain tingle. Lol

It's so weird, but I know I'm not the only one, because 1), it has a name. And 2) there are literally hundreds of YouTube videos designed to just trigger ASMR.
Some work on me, most don't.

But, does anyone here get it?
Maybe you do, but didn't know it had a name (I didn't for ages, I thought everyone got it, but no one spoke about it! Lol), or maybe you don't, and you'll think I'm insane. :D

CMDR Cosmic Spacehead

Heheh, yeah, it would be weird if your hair was raising. :D

In that case, yes, I have something similar, usually on the back of my head (only I call it a "Spider sense") and no, I had no idea it is "a thing" :)

Haha, Spider Senses is a cool name. I had no idea it was a thing either, until I googled it a few years ago.
No one I knew had it, or anything similar, so I was actually checking it wasn't a symptom of a brain tumor, or something. :p
(Don't Google it, because it is also a symptom... Lol but everything is, according to the internet)

There's been some studies on it, but I don't think there's anything definitive yet.

I'm going to call it my Spidey Senses from now on, though. :D

According to the internet, EVERYTHING is a cancer symptom. :D

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
Never heard of it and don't think I've ever experienced such.

Sounds weird. :)

Talking about strange things that happen to us, that you don't know are not normal until one day it clicks or you check with others.

I have a condition called Visual snow. Didnt even realise it was a thing until about a year ago, it clicked and i researched it and my Doctor says its a thing.

always thought i was normal.

Anyone else get this?

Always had it.

I think that comic book artist Jack Kirby had it too.

.....

... Are you sure you are not just still wearing your Rift? ;)

(Sorry....)

I don't have that but I do have artefacts looking a bit like floating threads which show up from time to time when looking at a plain, light-coloured background. After loads of tests (e.g yukky photos with a lens touching the cornea and intravenous dye that produced wildly coloured wee for days!) it is supposed to be the gel (vitreous body) coming away from the retina (PVD) - so not as bad as one first imagined.

If i look at a white painted wall its easier to see and at night when its dark its very easy to see.
When i close my eyes it looks very similar to the Animation above.

But it doesnt cause me any issues. like i said above i thought it was normal until a year ago.

During the day i generally dont notice it, much like white noise.

Yes, I experience it.
I've experienced it all my life, as I remember the earliest example being a hearing test when I was 3 or 4.
The best I can describe it is like cold goosebumps across the top and back of your head and down your neck a bit to your upper shoulders. It's not an unpleasant sensation. The main triggers for me appear to be when I'm thrown into a situation when I'm being tested for something. Either an x-ray, hearing test, ECG, and yes even when I'm having blood drawn for testing.

Thing is that my wife experiences it too, and has done since childhood. I know for a fact that my lad gets it when my wife runs her fingers through his hair.

There is anecdotal evidence that you're more likely to experience it if you're on the Autistic spectrum. Read into that what you will. :)

yeah quite intense ones too

I think it's sort of arisen due to my extreme fondness of my hair being played with, and the sound of scalp massage relates me to said social grooming.

PS: I also get quite noticeable visual snow in dark areas.
