ASP as next ship?

I have a kitted out viper sell value as 2.5mil also a trader sell at 1.8mil plus some cash, im still 2mill short, but as the next ship to buy is this worth buying? The viper has done well, kill anything with an assassination mission worth 150k anything more than 170k not much is left of me lol, managed to buy a trader for 1.2mil and got afew extra credits still need more.

Just wanted to know is the ASP worth it as an all rounder? I found the cobra a good all rounder but not for hi up level missions.

I just got mine, haven't tried combat missions in it yet, just making huge trips around the galaxy. So far I love it... The view is amazing and I imagine 6 hard points has to dish out some great dps.

Do you want to interdict other ships? If so, I can not recommend the Asp. Way too expensive, if the opponent doesn't submit. I sold my FS interdictor.

In all other respects, I love my 'Morning Star'! But be aware that outfitting is way more expensive than in the smaller ships as well.

Yeah no kidding... Those size 5 and 6 internals >.<

Have you tried a class 6 shield? If so, is it worth it?

The Viper is THE fighting ship. Once you balance the power management with the weapons with the thrusters with the FSD, throw on some upgraded hull plating, etc... There isn't a ship out there you can't take on.

While the Asp seems like a perfectly fine ship, it's strength is in it's "do a little of everything pretty good" role. I prefer a Lakon and a Viper and the contortions needed to keep them in the same region are worth it.

If you switch from the Viper to the Asp for combat, you will be mostly disappointed.

The Cobra will do anything you need it to do as far as missions go. The base model Asp is 6 milion. You better have at least another 5 for outfitting, a couple million in the bank for insurance, and a million or so for operating expenses. It really is all about what you want to do and how you want to do it, to determine what ship(s) you want. The Asp is a great all arounder, but be aware that it is much more expensive to upgrade and maintain compared to a cobra, and the Lakon-6 does jsut a good a job for a trader as well.

Now, if you are at the point in the game that you are just going to wander, and pick and choose what you feel like doing, and arent worried about grinding credits or faction, then the Asp is a great ship. If you have your eye on bigger and better things, then I would stick with the Lakon-6 and keep on trading, using your cobra to go do missions and such when you feel the urge.

I am at the same crossroads as you: I have a kitted out Cobra for missions, and a Lakon-6 for trading. I'm not sure if I am going to consolidate for an Asp, or keep the 6 and cobra, and keep working towards a python!

So anything with good jump range AND good combat?

No, sorry. I did stick with the original shield size so far. The 64 t cargo bay is all I kept for haulage and I do not want to fall back on a cobra's cargo space - even if I am quite sure that the effect should be... impressive. :)

If you use it for combat make sure you never let your shields drop, its very expensive to repair.

Yeah that's kinda what I was thinking... 32 tones would be fine by me if it meant having a giant tank for shields lol... Might make cargo... liberating... possible while under extreme duress... Just a thought.

Are you sure? I dont know...
With 6 hardpoints and a mighty generator to power them, you can deal quite a punch. The bigger shield generator can soak up a good deal of dammage and there is more internal space for shield cells (as I've learned, they are for noobs only... but they are usefull!). With upgraded thrusters, the Asp es even quite agile.

My PvP experience with the Asp is very limited (only two figths against the same commander, so far). But in both cases the attacker (he seemed to agree about the Viper's battle dominance) fled the figth... and I didn't even had to use a single shield cell (of which I have 10 in total; @ Beld: yep! And this is why... ;) ).
