Asp Explorer, Diamondback, or what?

So I currently own a decked out Vulture for combat. But when I feel the urge to do some running around and mission grinding, I want a more versatile ship.

The Asp Explorer comes highly recommended, but other options are the Diamondback, etc. I have a 15 Mil budget I'm sticking too, and would like to stay as low as possible to buy some upgrades. So the 6.6 Mil price tag of the Asp is looking good.

Anyone have any suggestions?

I would stick with the asp, but then Im biased as thats been my primary "go to" ship fer over a year. Thats not to say the DB isnt a good ship either, it is a very good ship, but the asp can do more, carry more and is one the best all rounders at that price level.

Its not a beautiful ship whereas the diamondback is one the best looking ships in the game imo, but it has more specific uses and is more limited in terms of cargo and fitting.

Its a personal choice and Im an explorer and the asp explorer is simply the best exploration ship in the game fer a great many who use it. On the other hand, the diamondback is certainly still a heavy hitting contender in its own rights, but loses out on fitting options Im afraid. The asp requires a medium size landing pad, whereas the DB is a small ship...subtle but important differences.

Id suggest getting both...just get the asp first ^

I am currently exploring but fully upgraded my Asp X for exploring and have 23MIl into it. I like the Asp better then the Diamond Back. I actually traded my Diamond Back in. If you want to do Hauler missions, Type 6 or Keelback are good. I have the Keelback A rated with a fighter bay which is good and cheaper than the Asp X. The Asp X is a good ship and actually can have some good armament in case you get targeted by pirates. Also has a really good jump range.

Asp Explorer, every time! Properly kitted out, it has a fantastic jump range and more scope for internals than the DBX. You can actually set the Asp up for a reasonable price, especially if you go for D-rated modules and buy the ship in Sirius controlled space, which knocks the price down to about 5.6 million (with their 15% reduction on the ship AND modules). If you fit a size 3 shield generator, it leaves the class 6 and 5 modules for cargo and a fuel scoop, great for rares trading and general mission running. (You could even have both for cargo, but a size 3 fuel scoop is painfully slow). Even then, you have additional smaller module spaces for either an SRV, more cargo, an Advanced / Detailed Discovery Scanner or an AFMU, etc, etc.

So, yeah, the DBX is nice, but the AspX is nicer. ;)

Despite being a huge fan of the asp on xbox and having enough available credits I'm thinking of holding out for the python and getting the asp later using the profits the python will bring :)

The dolphin and python seemed to be the workhorses I mainly used on my xbox playthrough with the asp only really used for travel/exploring and rare trading.

AspX:rolleyes:

Diamond Back X [yesnod] Comming in at just under 15M is your new shiny dragon:
NO LINK[mad]

A bit a cargo and a bit of combat with the best jump range available!!!
I flew the Asp... it was cooool... if you like to be a huge target in a glass house!!

+(not sure why the URL is not abbreviated!?! so i wrapped it in a spoiler, sorry bout that!)
+Hells Bells.... the link aint even workin!!! So it be erased!!

For pure exploration, i prefer my DBX for its look and ability to take heat when scooping. With a smaller class shield you can survive bumpy landings and still carry a small amount of cargo if needs be

For exploration and the ability to use as a multipurpose in the bubble, then go fo the ASPX. It was my all rounder on Xbox and is a great ship, but the engine noise is like Marmite.

Asp Explorer is one of the Best multi Versatile ships you can get for something that lands on a small pad, and for jump distance. It is a great ship for trading or mining, and is no slug in combat. I have mine set up for trading and short range exploring mostly A rated gear.

The main advantage of Asp X over DBX as an explorer ship is an option to equip 6A fuel scoop. It significantly reduces travel time when you want to just pass thousands of LY as quickly as possible. But it, obviously, costs a lot. For traveling inside the bubble or for a short range exploration, DBX offers the same but much cheaper. Besides, you can land it anywhere, and it looks more interesting.

I've got 2 Asp's. One for exploration only and the other for my Engineering material grinding and other generic stuff. With the FSD the ASP gets and Fuel scoop as mentioned, I save a ton of time using this ship than any other...

Don't forgetting that outfitting will cost far more than the ship. Here is a AspX fitted out for exploration with the sorts of things people here have mentioned;

and of course this will affect your rebut and exploring can be dangerous. I would get the DBX first, much cheaper but the DBX actually has the longest jump range of any ship in the game. Make some more money and then work up to the AspX if the DBX doesn't do it for you. You will also be able to carry some of the modules from the DBX over to the AspX.

I spent about 12M on an AspEx last night in Li Yong-Ru space. Nothing is A rated yet ;) still a nice (big) ship with a lot of cargo room (downsized shield for cargo), but that class 3 fuel scoop is painful. Luckily, it;s not an exploration build. I almost picked up the DBX. My thought was that the AspEx could carry more and quickly make the profits needed to buy a DBX later.
