ASP Explorer Fuel Scoops?

Hi everyone!

Over the past couple of months, I have become a heavy trader in my ASP Explorer. I have been running some delivery missions at Fehu, and the average travel distance for each of these missions are about 350 LY (At least the ones that pay well). The only issue that I am running into is the amount of time it takes my ship to fuel scoop! With my fuel tank, I can jump around 5-7 times before my fuel begins to hit a critical level. I would then pull up to a sun, and wait nearly 10 minutes to get a full tank. As these missions take me around 20 jumps to complete, you can understand how long this can take, and that's not even including the return trip! I have looked through some forums on this issue, and have found some people getting A6 Fuel Scoops on their ASP, which can fill a tank in less than 30 seconds. I am extremely confused by this, as my ASP can only fit an A2 Maximum. Did something change? Or am I being stupid?

Thanks for the help!

you have to put an A6 fuel scoop in a class 6 internal compartment. If the highest fuel scoop you can install is a A2 that means you are putting it in a class 2 compartment

My multi-purpose Asp is fitted with an A5 scoop, take about 10 seconds to fill her up. With shields and disco scanner still hauls 80 tons

Wylie28 is entirely correct. Like most modules, fuel scoops come in different sizes as well as different classes.

For your purposes you don't necessarily have to fit a size-6 fuel scoop, if you want to reserve that for a big cargo rack. A size 5, or even a 4A, would work fine.

You might also want to consider trying to "sip" at each scoopable star you jump to instead of waiting until your tank gets very low. Since you always have to turn your ship in order to align yourself with the next system in your route, you might as well use that time to swing around the star and scoop a little fuel as your realign. (Just remember to put a little more distance between your ship and the star before you start your jump, since if you're close enough to scoop you're going to be a little hot.) If you get good at this, you'll save yourself time.

This worked! Thanks a ton for your help.
I feel like an idiot now :)

We all have to learn at some point. What might also help is skimming the star in each system as you align yourself with your next destination. This way you pick up at least a bit of fuel in each system, and can get an extra jump or two before you really have to stop and refuel.

I call that combat scooping,as close to sun as possible just long enough to line up then run to the waypoint until the scoop disengages
