Asp Explorer revisted...

I tried the Asp Explorer a while back long before I started using FA-off and being used to the more nimble fighters, I just wasn't feeling it and sold it fairly quick. Since clearing my save, I've worked back up to a DB Scout which has been one of my favorite ships and I've also recently revisited missiles after finding out that they're a little more useful now and I've been really enjoying having a couple banks of seekers. Well... needless to say, I've realized that I need more hard-points as I've been missing having two small and two medium pulse lasers and as you can imagine by the title of this thread... I decided to give the Asp Explorer another try since my FA-off/boost technique has improved.

To make a long story short... after one evening in the RES, I have to say that I think I've found a new favorite ship. :)

Any diehard Asp Explorer combatants out there?

I find it merely ok at combat. It's main strength is versatility. The ability to carry a SRV, 60 tons of cargo, KWS , ADS, DSS, mostly A rated modules, 6 hardpoints, and still have a jump range of around 25 LY makes it a very useful ship.

It's my new favourite ship (since I restarted my career with my Xbox One CMDR). A lot more agility than I remember, plus the jump range and internals makes it a winner; add to this, 4 class 1 multi-cannons are lots of fun! 😁

I had one HELL of a time (In the BETA) using an Asp fitted out with two plasma slug (inifinite ammo so long as you have fuel) C1 rail guns, two C2 Pack Hound missile racks, modded with extra ammo, and 2 C1 seeker missile racks, modded again with extra ammo. I think one of the rack also had a convert some damage to thermal mod, and another had a adds heat damage mod.

It was amazing, an utter crush fest of a ship. Granted you could only take out about two or three ships before needing to re-load, and re0loading cost about 60,000 credits or something, but man was it fun. And those thips went down FAST.

If only I didnt have to power play grind to get pack hounds.... I want them so much.

Pretty sure every Asp explorer combatant is a diehard. It's about as close to a flying coffin as you get!...
Nice! :D

How are those?

But I don't doubt that the Asp is a good ship in the right hands. Fly safe CMDR :)
I'm hoping to be that guy... thanks. ;)

It is a good gunboat, but not a dog fighter.
That's kind of how I'd envisioned it... yeah, probably won't be hanging with the Eagles or the Sidewinders in turns, but I'll try my best to light 'em up as they pass by. [hotas]
