Don't forget to optimize your powerplant mass and other items by dropping a few sizes. No need to buy the "default" size, unless it's a requirement.
If you want to keep a shield, buy the smallest/lightest possible shield that will work for your current hull mass. It will be enough to protect you from minor bumps, and a few stray shots while escaping an interdiction.
Also keep in mind that with 1000LY routing, and routing in general, your "empty tank" range is meaningless since it will always do the jump calculations based on a full tank (that's the only baseline that makes any sense for routing).
Lastly, if you don't mind scooping, a significant range boost can be had by dropping down a fuel tank size, also keep in mind that bigger fuel scoops almost always trump "better" ones in the same class, so use the biggest possible scoop you can.
