Asp or Anaconda for Sag A*?

I've played ED since it came to XBOX, stuck to bounties, smuggling and CGs to make my fortune. Ive only grabbed an Asp for a day trip to Orion, but now im going to randomly switch gears (which makes this game amazing) and make a run for the center.
I know next to nothing about exploration as it is. My main question is should I take an Asp or build out an Explor-o-conda?
Any extra tips from you seasoned space sailors would be appreciated, big time.
Cheers CMNDRS

Either will do quite nicely, pick the one you enjoy flying the most. I tend to use the Anaconda for long trips (more than a week) For sightseeing stuff like Sag A*, Orion, NGC 7822 - Asp does the job perfectly, the lakon cockpit view is hard to beat.

Asp imho

The anaconda is a great long distance explorer is able to have the longest jump range in the game. So if you were going all the way the to edge of galaxy i'd go for Anaconda

The Asp jump range is good, can carry all you need for the trip and is far nicer to fly in supercruise, so for a medium range trip with lots of scoopable stars Asp.

If you want to get there and back quickly, either of those. If you want to explore and see the sights, literally anything will do - I went in an Orca once. I've been out for a couple of months this time in a DBX and I wouldn't have taken anything else.

I made my first trip to Sag A* in an Asp over a year ago, and am currently on the DW expedition in an ExplorAconda, so I've been there in both ships.

The Asp is much more manoeuvrable, which can mean a lot if you intend to do a lot of scanning / do the journey as fast as you can. If, however, you don't care and can afford to take a little bit more time, then the Anaconda is for you (the slower manoeuvring is probably more than compensated for by the longer jump range).

As you can't land (yet), the extra space in the Anaconda for multiple SRV's doesn't become an option. Both ships can easily fit all the kit that you need, with the Anaconda probably coming out with a slightly higher jump range.

But, the Asp is much cheaper to buy and fit than the Anaconda. And the buy back should the unthinkable happen is also much lower.

At the end of the day, fly what you feel the most comfortable in (the Anaconda isn't for everyone as some people just hate it's handling). You'll be in it for a while after all ;)

My suggestion for your journey would probably be the Asp. But my personal preference is definitely the Anaconda :)

Asp, the fuel economy is better, the handling is better, the view is better. The only reason I'd ever take my anaconda out exploring is if I wanted to make some really big jumps with FSD boosts to get to those outlier systems.

I'd go with the Asp. Every time you jump, you have to turn to the next system. I can imagine that becoming very tedious with an Anaconda because of its slow turning speed. plus, that will increase the risk of the Anaconda getting sucked into stars. I just got back from a 34KLY (about 2500 jumps) trip in an Asp. Even with that, it's easy to lose concentration and leave the throttle on when you drop to the new system, which puts you in the star in about half a second. Many times, I woke up and was able to steer just in time. You won't have enough time to steer in an Anaconda. Each time you do it, you lose another 1% to 2% hull and power-plant - worse if you don't have heat-sinks for when you heat up escaping from the star -, neither of which can be repaired until you get home. I think an Anaconda would be OK if you have a slow methodical mind or a high level of concentration, but if you're more inspirational or get bored easily, the Asp would be better.

I learn't a lot on my trip. Firstly, you don't need shields. secondly, you want the fastest fuel scoop you can get. Thirdly, a bit of extra fuel tank helps. After that, make your ship as light as possible by using the minimum power-plant, thrusters and power distributer that you can get away with. I'm going back again later this week. This is what I'll be using. Last time, I just about exhausted the ammo in a A4 AFU, and used 14 of the 16 heat-sinks to escape from stars without damage::

Hard to beat the view from the Asp, plus when you make the mistake of exploring while fatigued, it seems to turn away from stars more quickly, (unless the turn speed is an illusion).

I did it in an Anaconda.... It was fun... If I had to do it over again, I would probably go with an armored Clipper / Cutter / Anaconda / Cobra... Especially with the latest new.... Remember, don't travel without shields or weapons... You have been warned!

What no one has mentioned is that the Anaconda doesn't get bogged down near stars and planets resulting in severe speed drop whereas an Asp most definitely does.
An Anaconda will not get sucked into a star (as claimed to be a possibility) and maneouvres perfectly quick enough to line up fast with a target.
I run a long distance trade Anaconda and also two Asps so I know of that which I speak.
The Asp certainly does have the best visibility though ... that's for sure.

Oh, the other thing I forgot to mention is the Anaconda's heat management while scooping. I have a 7B fuel scoop on my Anaconda, and I can run it up to max while keeping the temperature at 63%. I couldn't do that in the Asp when I went to Sag A* :)

It depends on how you plan to get there, to be honest. Jump range is better on the Anaconda, but the Asp is easier to handle. If you're racing, nothing beats the Anaconda.

Meld them and go for an Aspaconda.

Manufactured by Faukon SpaceLacy I presume...

To OP:
I'm currently traveling to Sag A* in an Asp, 10 days into the journey and already half-way (keep in mind that I usually don't rush my journeys). But it can fit everything you need.
(bring about 30 million for fitting the best fuel scoop, but a 15 million build will work just fine for a mission like that).

Is that an A grade scoop? In my opinion, they aren't worth it. They will only fill your tanks maybe 10 secs faster (if almost completely empty) than a much cheaper B grade. Unless you're Buckyballing, it's a waste of money. Of course, that's my opinion :)
