Ships Asp or Anaconda

Just got back home from the trip to Orion, stopped off at Betelgeuse on the way back. It was the first time I had used an additional tank, was impressed with how the Conda performed.

Fuel capacity is 96 Tonnes. - Some stats

Max Jump range 40.58LY
30% fuel - 39.14LY
Max 96 tonnes of fuel, she'll still jump 34.90LY

Home base to Betelguese (416LY) can reach it on one tank with fuel to spare, but it does take 12 jumps. Max range in Econ mode, no idea, well in excess of 1000LY. Running out of fuel is the least of my worries with this build

A gutted explorer Asp can jump anywhere you need.
Using a ship 10 times the price because it squeezes out a few more ly's just seems silly.
I do love my Conda though so couldn't argue with 'just because' as the reason to explore with it

situation looks very different, if you want to take fuel limpet controller, fuel limpets, collector limpets, cargo rack etc. with you. but (i think as stated above) difference of time for sol - sag a in the buckyball runs is 30 minutes between anaconda and asp.

For short range range exploration (local nebulae) I would always take the Asp, for anything longer I still believe the Anaconda is infinitely better. The ship is much tougher, when have you heard a Anaconda driver ask 'Should I turn back, my canopy looks a bit dodgy?' She also holds more utility's, scoops faster, will be able to carry a fast shuttle for those canyon runs on airless moons and planets in Horizons. The view is fine (At least in the rift) maneuverability is more than enough, in my view these heavy ships are a bit too maneuverable.

Was never a big fan of the Anaconda, since the horizons announcement I've been taking my explorer conda on small trips out to Orion/pleiades, it's an absolute beast of a ship. Ideal for long trips into the void, have literally been asking myself why I never flew this ship more.

I am working on getting an Anaconda...want it for trade runs and exploration. by the way great name... Maybe I should change my name to 777FIXR.....lol (retired Aircraft mech)

If you can afford it, go for the anaconda - better jump range, faster fuel scooping, and better heat management.

The better jump range is especially nice as it allows you to take the most linear route possible between systems. The longest part of getting from point A to B is the loading screen/"witchspace" when you jump between systems. The anaconda can make fewer jumps for every 1000 LY segment than any other ship - saving you quite a bit of time.

I absolutely love my Asp. It's an amazing exploring vessel. Can do long range easily (just took a long drawn out trip to the core and am comfortably on my way back).
It can also fight like a beast when properly configured, oh and it trades well too.
All for anything between 16-50 million credits. It's an affordable bird compared to the very expensive Conda.
Saying that I am saving for a Conda. One day I will have one and I'm looking forward to that day. But for the here and now my Asp is a rugged, faithful and versatile bird which I use in exploring combat and trading roles brilliantly.

A rich man`s frigate i read in a previous post,,, Conda, a frigate, yup, can`t argue with that, has a frigate view from the bridge, thats the Bridge, not cockpit Assp drivers, and is always said as having naff handling response, meh, its a frigate, not a speedboat,,,

Conda, accept no substitute, (subject to finances) lol

Ok, which makes for the best and safest explorer?

Best in what way, and safest from what? (Serious question; there's no one "best" ship for all aspects and "safest" depends on what you're worried about - CMDR interdiction? NPC Pirates? Heat damage? Becoming stranded?)

Good answer. Safest in my opinion is subjective. You need to look after that cartographic data, unless FD messes it up of course and then it's all academic to be honest :)

It depends how important supercruise turning speed vs jump range is to you. I prefer the former, so it's the asp for me (actually might go back to adder next time I set out...)

before giving the adder a go, try the DBScout as an explorer. sc handling is exceptional.

I wrote a long post about why I hate the DBScout (undersized scoop for its FSD class). DBscout does have a better view.

yes, both diamondbacks suffer from their undersized scoop... but if you scan a lot of planets (why to choose sc hadling...), than those 1:30 minutes scooping doesn't matter that much (my feeling, when i'm out exploring in a dbs). i earned my exploration Asp via exploration in an adder, i can understand why to choose it... :)
