Asp or Python? Anybody done the numbers?

I've flown both and really like both ships but I prefer the Python despite the issues. The jump range is a bit of an shock at the start especially if you move to Python from a pimped out Asp that has the absolutely insane jump range but I got used to it. One advantage the Python has that you can easily fit a class 5 fuel scoop to it without sacrificing too much and with that the fuel scooping process is really fast compared to Asp with class 3 scoop. Combining the automated jump routing with the scooping speed you can perform a series of shorter and quicker jumps with Python and while the effects might be largely psychological you feel like you are getting to places quite fast.

The difference between a Python and an ASP. The Python's cost would be 90-120k.

So Viper - Cobra - ASP - Python, in my experience (although I haven't been able to try the Python yet) it depends on what you're doing at the time. Right now, my combat rank is 2 levels below trade and exploration ranks, so I shouldn't be trading all the time and therefore I am currently better off with the Cobra. But when I'm done with the pew pew, the Asp will be the better choice. It pewpews just as nicely but it's more expensive to pew (or to bzz bzz in my case).

I am not a multiple ship owner, because I like to play with the best I can get. Switching around is expensive (last time cost me about 1 million) but I do that once every 1-2 weeks.

The ASP is awesome but when you consider that a basic Python hull costs the same as a fully pimped ASP its no surprise that the Python is better for trading and combat and can hold its own as an explorer.

I flew the Python for a long time and its an absolute beauty in terms of handling and firepower.

Class 3 lasers are so much more powerful than Class 2s.

I've never owned a Python, but I know it can fight quite a bit better than the Asp, as well as haul more cargo. Downsides being, from my limited experience and deductions would be additional cost up front, higher maintenance cost, and even more limited ability to dock at outposts.

A fair number of us have known that sensor quality and the accuracy of gimbals/turrets are intimately linked. Makes sense if you think about. It's one of the reasons I stopped mounting beam laser turrets on my Viper, class A sensors are too heavy and too power hungry to make them viable.

Pythons can dock at outpost... That make it an excellent choice for trading.
