Asp Scout Synth skins just appeared in the store...

The Scout can get suprisingly fast with DDs, im using mine as a Railgun Asp (Rasp). The recent railgun buff really makes it shine now.
 
How about the Asp Scout for Base Assault? Skimmer missions and general planetary related stuff.

Great visibility cockpit and cheaper re-buy.

Maybe I'll just go ahead and still outfit my Courier for this though.

The outpost assaults where you blow up a power generator or something on a platform somewhere, a sidey can handle with no problem.

The high security base assaults with turret arrays, goliaths, patrols.. You want something sturdier than either asp. Dumbfire loadout gunship comes highly recommended, of course that's a lot more expensive. I initially used cobra4 for this role but you could do with something a little tougher tbh.

Courier might actually fit the bill if it's built tanky, give it a spin!

the asp is actually very manoeuvreable its speed is a bit pants and base assaults aren't that bad, new meta may be use mines fly in and drop and run to a safe distance

It's not really about manauverability, more about tankiness. Mines rather changes things up though :) asp bomber yeah I can see that working..
 
Could also consider a plasma accelerator with a long-range engineering mod for standoff bombardment of planetary bases in such assault missions. I got a pair of APAs up to 6.6 and 6.9 km max range, with projectile speed around 1750 m/s.
