Asp setup for combat / exploration / missions / piracy (eats Vultures anytime)

Hello,

Wanted to create a love/hate thread for Asp setup as there has been word around on the ED forums that Asp is no good in combat and that the Vulture is the ultimate Fighter. I want to prove this otherwise: I have destroyed already two Vultures with this setup (while not looking for a fight myself, but instead got attacked by these two hostile commanders in Vultures. Asp 2-0 Vulture. (and I have never been killed by a commander even I have done my whole career in Open Play.)

I have used this setup for my Asp already a while. When setting it up, I thought that I want a ship that is capable of some small-scale combat, missions and exploration (as I was constantly getting missions in unexplored systems).

So here is what I came up with and I must say that I like it a lot. It is capable of defending itself and even catch ships that you want to teach a lesson ;)

I would imagine that ships with chaff launcher would give it some hard times as the guns are gimbaled, but skillful pilot can always unlock target and use the Gimbals as fixed. That's what I do.

where can you be found?

Interesting the lack of lasers for taking out shields.

Sure it takes some rounds, but are doable at least if the target is not very heavy tank in shields. I haven't got no problems even with AI anacondas when it comes taking down the shields. But they don't use boosters I'd guess.

eats vulture anytime hahahahahahahaha omg. come lets 1v1?

I have no time for idle fights. But if you wish to come find me, it shouldn't be that hard provided the hints on my previous posts. I already beaten 2 vultures (who decided to attack me first) and no single loss on my side. Anyhow, I know that the day will come. Maybe sooner or later. Looking forward to it, but I am not a fan of organised fights. They are far too artificial in nature. Should I arrange a fight, I would not give a way my setup.

lol......

the vulture, with its C3 weapons, will eat the B5 shields (lol), only supported by an A3 cell bank and no shield boosters in 10 seconds max......
another 10 seconds to take out your powerplant....

in this time you might be able to drop 1 ring of a boosted vulture shield

next try

PS: i really have no idea, what the 2 vultures in your other posting were doing

Me neither. But they attacked first so I merely gave them back. I think that the other might've shield booster, but not sure. Both were using lasers (probably C3) and they did cut through the shields pretty fast but they failed when it came to the hull. Maybe they were not targetting subsystems, I dunno.

I love the saying "all mouth no trousers" and I can see your bottom cmdr..

I look forward to the next update in this saga and hope you're as forthcoming if and when you get your asp handed to you :)

I am pretty certain that such a day will come. Asp is not exactly the king of fighters (as is it not propably fighter at all), but so far I've done decently and was actually quite surprised when I could take down 2 vultures who were obviously looking for a fight.

Seems like a case of "wanting to do it all" in one single spec. Some more specialization would be a lot better imo

Lose some of the utilities for boosters, and definitely get a single laser in there for taking down shields. MC is utter garbage as soon as you meet anything with proper shield strength (which the vulture ironically should be a good example of if specced properly)

just tell me where u are. ill make it quikc

I own both Asp and Vulture, love the Asp (My main ship for most things) but should not stand a chance PVP a Vulture. My Vulture setup has 550mg+ shields and can knock down shields on another ship 3km easy.

BE CAREFUL. Multi cannon are useless over 1km.

I wonder what the difference between the B5 Shields and the potential A6 that you could run on that ship is.

I like the setup though, very jack of all trades. I was thinking of jacking in my two D2 beam lasers for the class two mutlicannons (which would then match your weapons set up) but I like my beams too much. Allows me to stay out hunting for a whole lot longer.

your all bark and no bite. dont make threads stating that ur asp fit wil beat vulture 'anytime' and then make excuses so u dont have to prove it.

At the current setup, A6 shields would exceed the energy availability of the power generator. Even A5 is too much.

Should I go solely looking for PvP, I would definately change the setup more powerful. In fact I would swap the discovery equipment and haulage capability to something more combat oriented..

Anyway, this is strictly for multipurpose and so far it has performed beyond my expectations.

Look "pal". That setup is not solely for combat. If I wanted to go 1vs1 PvP, I wouldn't definitely use such a setup. When it comes to "proving", I have already proved to myself that this setup works very well, even in sudden occasions of PvP.

Maybe you should change that from "eats vultures anytime" to "managed to kill 2 vultures with useless pilots" or this won't stop anytime soon...
