ASP Waepon Loadout advice needed

Either 4 E1 beams and 2 D2 multicanon or 2 D2 beams and 4 F1 multi preferrably overcharged, however against large targets 2 D2 beams and E1 canons works well with an A5 power plant

I use to have 2 medium turret multicannons and 4 gimballed beam lasers, and worked very nice against most ships who interdict me.
I love the turrets when start firing like crazy.

I'm flying 2x size-1 gimballed beam lasers, 2x size-2 gimballed multicannons, and 2x size-1 straight rail guns. (General advice on combining gimballed beams & multicannons: The multicannons want to be mounted on top, not bottom, due to the lead they need to score a hit.)
Make sure to get the best power distributor you can get, and of course a sufficiently good power plant for all your energy needs.
Also equip a shield cell bank, they're pretty inexpensive and really give an edge in combat. Make sure not to buy A-grade, as they have less charges than B-grade for some mysterious reason.

I run with 4 class 1 beams and 2 class 2 multicannons. Works really well. Shields drop fast and the 4 lasers do decent damage to hull.

I'm thinking of changing it up though to 4 class 1 multicannons and 2x class 2 beams to see if that works any better.

I have class 5 grade B power plant, with class 4 grade A power distributor so the ship can handle it with 4 pips to weps.

Can someone point me in the general direction towards some Bean Lasers. I would very much like to try them out.

If the different variants shoot different beans i prefer pistachio beans. Lol

I have kitted out my Asp in a fairly similar way to you (a pair of beam lasers, and 2 pairs of multi cannons) but the main difference is that I use class 1 beam lasers, and have one of my pairs of multi cannons as class 2. I find the class 1 gimballed beam lasers are powerful enough to take down the shields quite easily, and a class 2 multi cannon deals some serious damage, especially when combined with a further pair of class 1 multi cannons.
I saw this video on YouTube where the guy has kitted his Asp completely with multi cannons and no lasers at all. The ease with which he destroys ships is quite impressive, and I'm seriously thinking of going the same way. Take a look....

OMG. Just watch this video. 6 multicannons absolutely destroy! Now granted, that was a beta video, but /boggle. I think I'm gonna try this.
Wow! Might have to try this too, but they nerfed MCs against shields, right? Is anyone running this loadout currently? How effective is it now?

Well to answer my own question, pretty frelling effective! :) Shredded a Federal Dropship in about 10 seconds.

Uses a lot of ammo though. 3.5k ammo bill for about 10 minutes of bounty hunting.

Hmm.. might have to switch back to multi's then..

I'm running a pair of 500K C2 gimballed beams, and 4xC1 80K gimballed cannons.. The cannon's rip chunks out of ships once the beams take the shields down.

Good to know ! The multi cannons do have a very satisfying 'feel' about them, so I imagine maxing out with 6 is VERY satisfying when taking out enemies. I may just give it a try too :)

I installed a pair of beam lazors on thous light HPs that are next to one another. The rest are multicannons. Everything gimballed.

My current loadout is an even split of beams and multiguns, all gimballed. One size 2 beam, and 2 size one in the nose on one fire group to crack the shell, and one size 2 multi, two size one on the shoulders to crack the nuts inside. I have a top-rated power distributor, so can fire the beams long enough to do their job on anything smaller than a Python.

Cannons? Not Multi Cannons?

I'm new in the game and this is my first post, so I may not know the "why" about the popular preferred choices between Cannons vs Multi-Cannons...

My game exp thus far;
I have been playing since late December and have collected around 30,000,000 cr, mostly from trading. I did do some fighting while in a Cobra using "all turreted" lasers. I found that I enjoyed the set up, which was mostly just for protection before my swift exit as a trader, yet when I found out that I could take down a few craft, I did do some sticking around to get myself use to dog fighting Elite Dangerous style. The Cobra's hull design complemented a good field of fire for all the turrets.

After gaining enough cr to get into an ASP, I found that the hull design of the ASP did not do well for turrets, so I went weapons naked doing trading runs until I could afford a Type-6, which is what I have now. I reverted back into the ASP for a short while to do some combat missions, but found that it costs quite allot to outfit an ASP for any good combat load-out to be afforded.

Now I'm ready with 30,000,000 cr to outfit a good combat ASP. I made it to the rank of Midshipman before I went back to trading, but am having a problem gaining more rank, so I can acquire a Emp-Clipper, and so it's now it's time for Space Time :D to do some serious combat time to get that Midshipmen rank up! "What rank do I need and from who do I need to get it from in order to get a clipper?

Anyway... "I want all Gimbled Weapons"... (until I get better at shooting the direct fire weapons)

Back to ASP Load-Outs and Cannons vs Multi-Cannons;

In C-1's, my current choice are all Beam Lasers, because they have a E rating and Damage of 4
In C-2's, my current choice would be Cannons, because they have a D rating with Damage of 6

The Multi-Cannons, though continuous, have a Damage of C-1=3 and C-2=4

So my real question is, "is it the graphics of the Multi-Cannons that causes them to be preferred?" or, "How are they better and also have less damage than the Cannons?"

All weapons have their own draw backs, power draw, heat and reload... "But why are Multi-Cannons preferred?"

Thanks for any answers...
Space Time :)
