AspX exploration build

Hi CMDRs,

Looking for some feedback on my AspX build, designed solely for exploring:

http://beta.coriolis.edcd.io/outfit...v62i2f.Iw18WQ==.Aw18WQ==.&bn=Exploration AspX

Not sure about the AFMU, should i have it in the class 3 slot and swap the fuel tank? Never really used one and am unsure whether ill need it in the class 5 slot. Advice would be most welcome.

PS - Disclaimer: never been properly exploring before. I have traveled a few hundred LY's from the bubble but never on long range journeys. I like the AspX over the Conda (view and maneuverability) but is there another ship i should/could consider or is this AspX optimal?

will make a fine exploration ship.. however you can shave more weight off for better range using power priority and a smaller PP, and the additional fuel tank is not necessary

if it were me i would change it to this; http://beta.coriolis.edcd.io/outfit...2f.AwRj4z1EaA==.Aw18QjKQ.&bn=Exploration AspX

when your using the Auto field maintenance unit you don't need your shields powered up etc; your class 5 AMFU gives you more ammo - it weights nothing so take the best you can, also you can take a smaller power plant if you manage priorities better

you can use other ships but the AspX is just an easy choice without compromise.

Hi Cmdr, I don't do Asp's lol, and it really is always a case of,, each to his, or her own as far as any builds go,, but how bout this,,

if you're looking for JR, full tank jump up from 32.64 to 35.54, over 50% saving on the PP weight, and a lot less fuel, free's up a slot, and you'll be more than fine with 4 jumps, especially since being able to route plot using only scoopable's, would keep the AMFU, o7

Hello,

this is my Asp
http://beta.coriolis.edcd.io/outfit...v62i2f.Iw18WQ==.Aw18WQ==.&bn=Exploration AspX

out there it looks like this:
http://beta.coriolis.edcd.io/outfit...2f.AwRjOV3K02g=.Aw18WQ==.&bn=Exploration AspX

Fuel tank: It depends - if you wanna go for neutron stars /black holes, a 32t tank or a second tank makes sense if there are a couple in a row. But usually you will find enough scoopable stars also in systems with a neutron star. Ok, mostly they are some distance out, but imho it is worth the time. Besides you often find valuable planets around them.

Edit:
Heat Sinks are imho very valuable. On my way out to Jaques, i ended between two close stars and immidiatly the heat increases. I fired 2 heatsinks (one would have been enough) and got out undamaged. The moment i fired the sink, the tempreture was over 90%, the sink reduced to 0% and the moment i got out of the mess, it was at 70% again.
That's why i never go exploring without them.

Great suggestion, thank you. I did look at decreasing the PP but didn't consider the power management to the extent you have done. Food for thought, thanks for the advice!

Thx CMDR, another fine suggestion involving deceasing the PP class and increasing its rating. Yes, in deep space the AFMU seems a necessity huh - accidents can happen. :)

Just to underline that the extra tank is superfluous, on this ship more than virtually any other. And yes, heat sinks are necessary.
This is my build, so far over 250k in it.

Wondered about heat sinks...had them in my original build and thought i could save on weight but guess they're light and handy if you drop to close to a star (or get tangled in a neutron!) :)

Nice build, good range!

I don't think you need the extra fuel tank, I'd change it for a second AFMU, and pack some heatsinks. I'd probably also go for 2A power distributor. Finally because I'm a sucker for thrusters, I'd upgrade to 5A (and subsequent powerplant 3A too). I do lots of flying about systems so want the quickest response.

Also don't forget the Macedonica Principle - always take a mining laser.

Here's my build https://coriolis.edcd.io/outfit/asp?code=0p5tfFflid5snf5--2l---02---3c0s0i40v62f2i.AwRj%2FVM0qA%3D%3D.Aw18WQ%3D%3D.&bn=Evoflash%20Asp%20X

Hello,

Switch off stuff before jumping to reduce heat if required.)
That#s something different. The Heat sinks are just for an emergency case

I concur
heatsinks are not required
Like i wrote, they saved my a..
I know for shure - i wouldn't come out of that trap, without any greater damage.
You jump 10,000 times without - all easy, but then....
But that was the third time i got into such a trap. till now i have about 65 to 75,000 ly traveled.
Other travelled twice the distance without getting burned once.
Maybe it is just for people like me who also wear an integral helmet even at a hot summers day.

but each to their own.
who am i to tell others what they gotta do.
It's just a reminder.

I have a very similar build but with 2 x heat sinks, which I haven't used yet. However having read Macedonicas story https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/308075-End-of-the-Road I'm wondering if I should have equipped a mining laser. I am about 1000 ly from Eagles Landing and am considering returning for one.

I have also had a bit of hull damage due to careless planetary landings (don't drink and drive kids) and am wondering if bigger shields might be an idea after all!

Thanks for the feedback CMDR. Yes, I am partial to thrusters also, hmmm. Might drop some jump for better thrusters. By the time i engineer it it'll be very decent anyway. You can swap core internals between ships, right (as long as they're of the same class?)

Mining laser you say....reading Macedonica's post, i wont need a refinery though?

Have modeled mine on this one; nice build and seems to cover all the bases well. One change, i went a 3D instead of 2A PD as slightly better JR...what do you think? Obviously it will have lower integrity, that an issue you think?

Looks good to me! Might run a little hotter, but I don't think you'll use it a lot when exploring. I turn my PD off altogether, so maybe I should go to 3D also as it's 0.5t lighter. Good shout.

Here's my Asp build for what it's worth.

My primary suggestion on your build is to drop the extra fuel tank. The added fuel just adds weight and slows you down.
A 3D shield generator will save weight. You only need protection from bumps on landings and a 3D is more than sufficient.
With that you can save even more weight by dropping down to a 2A power plant. With the AFMU turned off until you need it, you'll have plenty of power.
See here ...
