Assasination missions, why the 30min + wait?

Yeah, the number one reason I never do those missions. So pointless to have to wait 30 minutes to even start the thing.

You do know you can simply fly to the target system, honk the ADS, find the target body and a USS with the target without having to wait right?

You don't have to wait, it is just when the NPC is easier to find in SC. They can be found and killed and finish the mission before that. Maybe if you did more missions you would know that.

Why did they introduce a time period for assassination missions that you have to wait 30min or more before they start?

Because in the previous game, Frontier: First Encounters we were quite often given assassination missions, that required you to be at a particular location, on a certain date and time to meet your prey. These were pretty good missions, and timed assassinations were something a lot of people (me included) asked for.

Unfortunately, FFE worked as a solo game using 'realistic' flight and time compression, which allowed you to get set up, then wait for your quarry to spawn at a star port. If you lost him you could follow him through hyperspace with a cloud analyser and re-intercept. Elite: Dangerous is constantly 'real-time' due to its multiplayer nature, but someone still tried to add the timed element into the assassination missions, but it doesn't quite work as well.

...are true.

Admittedly, the first time I tried one of these, I waited until the time was close, SC'd to the correct area but the mission objective didn't spawn within the allocated time, FAIL!.
I reported it as a bug, a while back.

After an update or two, I tried again.
This time, I sat around the planet in question, with a fair amount of time before they where meant to show. The objective spawned well before and... Success!
