Assassin Creed: Origins

I came into the AC series late, actually it was due to a free game offer promoted by our daily lurkers here that got me into the game, and I liked it, played the story and got AC: O.

Now I'm roaming the desert and doing my part as a desert assassin, and I'm having fun. This game is so good that I will compare it to the witcher 3
Yes I know, there ain't many games out there that even deserves to be compared to the witcher series.

It lacks the RP part, you're on a set course and that is it, however the story, and the quest systems is just as good as the witcher. What lacks are crafting and the RP mechanics.

You're in a open world, a huge one I might add, with lot of stuff to do, there are so much you can investigate and find, however in the end it's build on the same formula, but in this case it's not a bad thing.
Because you see, it works, you don't feel that you're grinding away your time, you actually do it with a smile on your lip and enjoy the ride through the game world.

Many game developers could learn from this experience, it should be a case study at the universities where they study these things.

So this is a recommendation of the game, if you like these type of games, go get it, it's worth a try and I guarantee you will have fun playing it.

Dunno I've seen others rate this alongside witcher 3 and while I get the compassion to a certain degree, for me it doesn't come close now I've played a fair bit of it again. The side missions tend to be very cookie cutter. Mostly taking the form of clearing some compound or other of guards and grabbing some generic item or person or killing some forgettable nobody. Whereas with witcher 3 I could probably remember the vast majority of side missions for whatever unique thing they had.

The main missions aren't bad in origins with some good story embedded here and there. But again I think witcher 3 clinches it over this one.

I've also come to downgrade my thoughts on the combat in origins. It seems as though it's meant to be a finessed thing but something feels off with it and I end up whaling away at enemies instead. The ranged and stealth combat is good though.

Dunno it's a good game but it's not close to a witcher 3 beater for me.

Good review, Lysander. One thing that Ubi did right with this one is they made it "fun." Given that's what game's are supposed to be, it's actually pretty surprising how many fail to make that mark. ACO is just a pleasure to pick up and play. Definitely my favorite adventure open world-y game I've played in a long time, and much easier to get into than TW3 (and I say that having played TW3 for over 300 hours loving every minute of it.) IMO. I only compare it to TW3 because they both share big open worlds and a similar mission structure; they're each different enough that comparisons ultimately fall short. If you're a fan of adventure games, they each belong in your library.

It's not beating TW3 never said that, however it's close to be on the same level, if adding RP and crafting it would get there, the open world is amazing and full of details.

I've play TW3 and TW2 for many many hours, and it's my favorite RP game ACO is very close and I really enjoy playing it.

I think it tops TW3 in a couple areas. First and foremost is the world; it blows TW3's map(s) out of the water, not even a contest. Then there is the way these maps are navigated--parkour is just a LOT of fun, and it makes the world more interesting and varied. Last is the combat, which I think notches TW3's system by a couple marks. My computer is literally a fire breathing dragon, so I never noticed any problems with performance that a lot of other people complained about.

Honestly couldn't disagree more on the map design/environment, felt that the witcher devs utterly nailed a country at war and managed to put a lot of variety into the environments from war torn to town to city to forests to coasts to mountains, not only having the variety they produced each better than anything I've seen before or since. Origins is well lovely too but it's well...just Egypt really.

Still Horses for courses though I suppose.

I kind of agree, ACO is not blowing it out of the water, the map is much bigger no question about that, and the immersion is pretty great in the ACO map in some places, however TW3 is a coupe of years old and therefor different in size, but I can clearly see they were looking at TW when they designed the game. However i really enjoy exploring the world, and must say there is more to explore in ACO than in TW3.

I really enjoyed the original Assassin's Creed. And equally Assassin's Creed 2.

Number 3 and 4(I think) is where is started going wrong. I expected the series to end in 2012, which is how the sorry was made to seem.
I also really loved the whole animus thing, and thought it was an excellent way to bridge to two time periods using a pretty good explanation.
But then it just took a bizarre turn and it didn't feel right anymore.
I don't even remember if I completed Assassin's Creed 3.
I was expecting more modern day stuff as Desmond, which I thought would be cool in modern cities, etc.

But I did always enjoy the gameplay. (Going back to AC1 seems extremely repetitive though, but didn't at the time).
Combat was ace, graphics were really good, all in all, the AC games were top notch, just the story tanked later on.
I have no idea what it's like since then, I don't even know if there was any good modern day AC theme orifthey killed off the present day bit entirely... But hey ho.

God knows how many games I've skipped, but I've got the free version of Black Flag, which I'll download at some point. It's free. So basically best value for money ever. Lol
If it's good, I'll look in to Origins, and the ones before.

Incidentally, Assassin's Creed 1, was the only game I have ever bothered unlocked 100% of the achievements on (on Xbox 360). I've never bothered to do that for any other game or platform.
I tried for the original Dead Space, and did my entire first playthrough using just the pistol. But never bothered to do all of the rest of it. Lol

My entry into the AC story started with ACBF, then I checked out ACO and was hooked. never tried the first and I don't think I will because the gameplay in ACBF and ACO is more than enough for me for hours and hours.

The first game is incredibly repetitive. I would not recommend it unless it was to be your first AC game.

I would highly recommend the Ezio trilogy however. Those three are still the definitive AC games IMHO. Bayek is a bit dull... As you know, Edward Kenway is awesome. Ezio though... Legend. He's an incredibly well written character.

I bought Assassin's Creed Origins gold edition with a 30% discount 3 days ago and I think it is an awesome AC game.
The world building in Origins is just plain brilliant.
I love architecture and have several books on ancient Egypt and this is a wonderful experience for me.
The atmosphere is great.

UBI added a simple upgrade crafting system and a skill system reminiscent of Far Cry Primal and that is fine for this game.
They have a very good weapons and combat system and the fights feel very solid.
I play the game on nightmare difficulty.

I think this is a worthy AC sequel if I ever saw one.
afaiac it is on the same level as AC2.

Highly recommended.

I'd agree with all of this regarding the series. The backstory and lore in the ezio series is really detailed. I found it a little heavy on the history but suppose if history is your thing then you'll geek right out on it. Much the same as in origins like you say Bayek is a little dull as a character.

Edward was a great character, I kind of hoped I could make him sail the 7 seas until he was very old, I also wonder what became of his children and who did he have the son with? I never figured that one out maybe I skipped something during my play sessions. Again Bayek is not that interesting as a character however the story is pretty good, my only problem is that I can’t get as invested as I could with Edward and no it’s not because he is brown and Edward is Caucasian, I don’t care about these things to be honest.

Game overall looks amazing but why the hell does Ubisoft use chromatic abberation?? It just doesnt fit the ancient look at all.
I am quite tempted to get it for my PS4 Pro but I have some unfinished games so a new game would just screw things up. :p
Looks like a solid game though and it's awesome to see huge companies like Ubi still making great single player experiences when other companies are saying single player games are more or less dead.

Maybe you can mod it? Yeah it do look amazing and I really like many of the mechanics in the game, I don’t push the narrative in this game, I really enjoy just traveling around and check stuff out.

In general the gameplay is pretty teen as far as I'm concerned, but there are definitely some rather educational murals scattered about. Plus, up in the north east corner of the world there is a city more or less dedicated to bathhouses for the upper class, and around there are certain windows that can be peeked into where people are engaging in some seriously adult endeavors inside.

Thus revealing why JB loves the game!

Completely understand, and didn't once think there was any racial motive in your thoughts. I too don't give a damn about the pigmentation of one's epidermis.

Actually, I'd recommend AC: Rougue. It's like BF in gameplay, but a totally different and new story. It ties together BF & III. Very good title in my opinion.
