Assassinate Missions Question

When you guys get a missions to assassinate a certain criminal in 1 - 3 systems... Do you actually supercruise aimlessly in each one until a USS shows up?

Any strategy to finding these guys?

Thanks!

Yeah. Jump to the system and sit at minimum throttle in supercruise, preferably close to a place ships frequent, like the main star or a station (signals seem to pop up more frequently as opposed to deep space, but I could be wrong). Do that in any one of the three systems initially listed; a lone clean ship will show up and tell you where to go from there, then you jump to that next system and do the same thing, and the elite Conda will eventually show up.

It helps to have your active missions totally cleared so you have less likelihood of signals spawning things mission-related and wasting your time.

Yes, always an Elite Conda, though the difficulty of each one differs from the previous.

Their loadouts change, but generally speaking they're outfitted with great shields and armor (the strength of both vary somewhat), occasionally missiles, and always several laser turrets with usually a couple MC turrets. Often times they have a class 4 plasma accelerator, which, if you get hit, will go right through your shields and disable your engines, if you aren't outright destroyed (disabled engines means you're dead, anyway). For that reason you need to keep moving, trying to stay directly behind them is your best bet.

Target their power plant or FSD (FSD is easier to hit from different angles) to kill them much more quickly, since it's an insta-wreck as soon as either subsystem is destroyed. Carrying chaff into battle helps, since they're turret-heavy, and shields cells are almost a must. You don't need them, but they're incredibly helpful (and a bit overpowered atm). Scanning them with a kill warrant scanner will juice up the bounty a bit most times.

The target isn't always in an anaconda, the last two assassination missions I've completed along with one that was a naval progression opportunity were against two federal dropships and an imperial clipper.

The Viper is the smallest ship able to reliably kill these. When I get enough of them I switch to my Viper armed with four class 1 dumbfire launchers (class 2 are bugged) and go hunting. Four pips to shields and two to engines and make every shot count. I missed with one shot once and target survived, but you normally have missiles left over after you kill them. Take a shield cell to be safe, but once you get practiced you can kill them or run out of ammo before taking serious shield damage. Grade A shields and Thrusters strongly advised.

Never let let them point at you or plasma-death will follow.
Wait until targeting lead circle is over the target or just ahead of it.

It is not easy, but it is simple. I enjoy it :).

I put a vid up the other day killing a couple. The first shows you how not to do it well, and I do get clipped by a plasma shot so you can see that as well, the second shows how to do it a bit better. I'm in my Asp, by the principles are the same. Target the power plant.
