Assassinate the Federation President

Okay, this is probably going to sound stupid.. plus I'm not anti-Federation at all... but can we assassinate the Federation president on his travels?? A power-void right before Powerplay sounds kind of exciting...

I wondered the same thing when I first saw the Galnet news story. There's exactly zero chance in hell that Frontier will actually let us assassinate Halsey - their control of the narrative is too tight for them to allow that kind of player influence. But maybe they'll make a community goal about it :)

It would be good to have some dramatic elements like this added to the game as events. Makes sense that being a leader would be a risky career choice, but FD would need to have to tailor the story around it and for such a major event like this, it should be insanely hard to accomplish.

Wouldn't happen. Each system is a shadow system, as in it's a duplicate to place X amount of players at one time. If you have an NPC like the president in one system he'll have to be in each duplicate. What if one shadow/duplicate system assassinated him and the others didn't? Would be fairly stupid to put it all down to a majority wins type thing... Would feel really cheap too.

This is exactly what I thought would be on offer.
When it was announced Sol needed a permit to enter it I imagined all sorts of things for missions.

Having to steal a permit somehow, smuggle yourself into the system without anyone noticing your ship doesn't match the one that the permit is from, like something from return of the jedi when they approach the super star destroyer and have to send their stolen code to get down to endor.

Once you are in sol security would be tight and finding and killing your target would be difficult to say the least.
Once you find the ships the presidents ship and some of the escorts would jump out to their pre-arranged "bunker" system (they surely would have contingency plans for assassinations)

You would have to use the wake scanner (shock horror!) while under heavy fire to see where they jumped to, follow them, maybe interdict them and whittle down some of the remaining escorts while he jumps out again, presumably to some capital ship location.

Maybe having the president as the target would be too big of an event to happen often, or ever, but what about Senator ABC?

Was any of this promised? Nope. Its what I imagined in the released game, everyone know what we got so far :(

I actually think Hasley will be assassinated through the lore, and most likely at some point during this tour, though I do like the idea of letting the players somewhat control the outcome.

They don't have to allow players to control the outcome. If they want him dead for their story, and players are given the opportunity to kill him, he will die.

Laziest way would be to put him in a capital ship and let players join either side of the combat zone. Once X amount of combat bonds (from only there) are cashed in the cap ship goes boom.

I think were saying the same thing, I just added at the end I wouldn't mind the idea of working some kind of community goal into deciding either the time or the system it happens in.
