Assassination mission - Hack Comm's Array... how exactly?

I've taken a couple of these now (by mistake) and I just can't figure out how to complete without wiping the entire base out, getting wanted (alot) and incurring bazillions in bounties.

Basically I have to hack a comm's array at a +++ Hi sec base and obviously can't get anywhere near to do this without the base attacking me.

What gives, am I missing something or are these missions just not worth the effort?

You'll have to neutralize the base defenses, get in there with an SRV and data link to the comms array.

It's not quite as daunting of a task as it sounds.

I've done plenty of base bashing (it's good fun) but in the process of neutralising that particular base I incurred a notoriety of 3. Not really worth it for a 1,5 million credit mission.

You can get in and scan the comms link before the srv gets blown up. Not really a great way of doing it but if you want to keep notoriety down it's the only way. You might get out but chances are you'll be sacrificing your srv. It's actually a mission type fdev should look at because the risk/reward payoff definitely isn't strong enough to encourage peoppe to do it.

If you're fast enough, with a ship with decent shields, you can scan these with the ship's data link scanner. You do have to get in close though and you will be attacked before completing the scan, hence the need for shields.

Uncomfortably so. When I tried it in a Corvette, the nose hit the planet's surface. Definitely no more than a couple of hundred metres.

Do it in a SLF keep your mothership well away from the base and any ships and fly right up to it, scan get blown up and super cruise home to get the money. SLFs are insanely cheap.

The notoriety isn't that big of a deal, really, as long as you've got something else to keep you busy in another system while it cools off. Then it's just a visit to your local IF, a little bit of bribe money, and all's forgiven.

Easiest way to do these is to never get out of your ship.

Easier to do with a smaller ship...I normally use my Courier, but this is the example I had on hand.
