ASSASSINATION MISSION PROBLEM

now before anyone starts to explain to me how to do them, I already know how. start off by looking on the galaxy map , locking to location, going there then searching signals. if your lucky you'll run into the right guy that tells you where he is , in the first few signals. if not then you search for a while, find the target then kill him or die in the prosess. my problem is that I have found if i run into one of his cronies first and they give a mission update saying to let the target go, it then becomes almost impossible to find them, no matter where I search. I have searched all known locations, including the area where the target said to meet up. due to this I have failed 2 missions so far , im on my 3rd now with this same problem.

anyone know what to do from here on ?

The missions are bugged, and have been for months sadly. Sometimes they work, most often they don't.
It's been on the known issues buglist for months.

Dont let that guy give you the counteroffer, shot him or exit the game before that.

The mechanics of these missions are broken. It breaks when you get offered the branching objective. You have searched everywhere but the forum search function! Plenty of threads on it.

In summary, you're best to wait for PowerPlay update which should fix/replace the broken missions anyway.

I've gotten mission credit for attacking the federal dropship after they give the alt mission.

How is that possible though ?

I thought when you enter the USS if the NPC is there who offers the counter mission it immediately changes ?

No, it will change after the messages, as soon you see the first message from him exit the game or shoot him. The next uss will be the assasin.
