Assassination missions and mistaken identity

I got an assassination mission for one "Isaac Kirchoff". Found the scared trader giving me the location, went there. Flew around, going into USSs.

"AHA - I have you now you deadly... uhm... Orca?".

Yeah, my target was in an Orca. Clean. Well. What to do. So I killed him. He didn't fire a single shot.

Mission still not accomplished? Wut?

Turns out USSs with innocent traders can spawn with names of targets in your mission list. They forgot to add some check for that.

Oh well.

EDIT:
Guess what my next USS contained? An Orca. Clean. Named "Isaac Kirchoff". He died too. And was not the real target. Again. Geeez people, how common is that name!

EDIT 2:
Uhm... again? Three Orcas named Isaac Kirchoff, all working for the right group, and in the right system. But not finishing the mission on kill. Bug?

Seems like a bug of some sort...

Had the same thing happen today with one of those jobs.

Kept on dropping into USS's with Orcas in them over and over, and jumping back out because it wasn't an Anaconda... until I clued in that it had the same name as given in the job. So, KWS'ed him (anarchy system), no bounty. Blew the first one up without him firing back. No mission completion. Okay, try again, found him again in another USS. Sat there and let him fire on me a few times to see if that would help any. Nope. Even exited the game and restarted for the third one to see if it would fix it. Still no luck.

Gave up after that...

Had once same problem with assasin mission... in USS ive found taget was in Orca and killed it.. mission was still on going, checked next USS, same orca appeared. After 5 times abandon that mission. Its a trap!

didn't know it was a bug, I had a similar mission a few weeks ago that I abandoned for role-play reasons (dude was clean, no bounty with scanner and faction allied with me). since I abandoned it then I guess I never found out that it wouldn't have mattered if I would have killed him, lol

My idea is, some fanatic killed the real Kirchoff, and now they are all demonstrating consternation and solidarity.

do a warrant scan on him. Had the same thing with a clean target. Scanned him, killed him, got a bounty on my head myself, but did complete the mission.

I had this same thing happen, Orca and all, with a "Richard Bayliss". So many dead Richards, yet no reward. Ultimately I just had to abandon the mission.

Yes, my first of this mission type was the same. Had to abandon it. It works nearly all the time when the target is an Anaconda, but Orcas supposedly are always bugged.

As soon as you get an Orca spawned abandon the mission and dont bother searching USSs again as the mission is bugged. I stopped doing these as I can get more credits bounty hunting resource extraction sites.

I've had 2 separate mission from the same station to kill the same pirate before. It must just use a pool of random names, so theres a chance something like this could happen I suppose

I've gotten a couple of these basic "whack 3 pirates" missions and then when I get out there I am instead greeted by a "target" who offers me a different mission - such as to attack system security, or some such.

Do I lose reputation with my original hirer if I decline the mission?
I have noticed that if I clobber the target, I get a bounty. What am I supposed to do? I assume that if I attack system security (for the measly 13k cr or whatever) I'll torpedo my reputation.

What do you guys usually do with those?
